Held in restaurants and bars across the North Bay, "paint-and-sip" gatherings are a cross between art class and happy hour. Participants receive step-by-step instruction from local artists, while sipping wine in an atmosphere that's equal parts educational and social. Art supplies are provided, and wine is available for purchase. After a couple hours, everyone leaves with their own version of the featured painting. "You don't have to be an artist. Some participants have never paint- ed before, and they can just relax and have a couple drinks," said Lisa Pedrani, an instructor for Paint Nite. "Sometimes you go to an art studio and get intimidated because there are some really good artists there. Here, everyone's comfortable and everyone helps each other."
