By Linda Taylor The 19th annual Quartzsite Masters was held Saturday, Febru- ary 20, with 9 and 11 A.M. shotgun starts. We enjoyed a beautiful day and over 80 participants played with some shooting exceptional scores and some not so exceptional ! (LOL) The women's winner of the Masters' title and green jacket was LeeRaye Christner who shot a round of 42. LeeRaye just seems to get better with age as she is a young 81. Just imagine, ladies, how tough she will be with practice for next year's event. She has won the title in 2013 and 2016 and has been runner-up numerous times. Winning the title and jacket for the men, was 4 time winner, Jerry Tay- lor, who fired a round of 37. Come on guys, this is getting boring! He's tough, but not that tough. In the women's age category of 55 and under, the title was shared by sisters, Teri Koontz and Deb Koontz, who both had scores of 63. In the women's division age 56-70, Linda Taylor won the trophy with a score of 54. She was closely followed by Donna Angel who fired a 55. 2016 VFW Masters For women over 71, the trophy went to Colleen Mason who shot a 43 and 2nd place was won by Judy Brand's score of 49. For the men's age category of 55 and under, Mike Schalk won the trophy after shooting a 41 and second place went to Bud Coenen who had a 44. In the men's division age 56-70, Tom Chopski won the trophy with his round of 41. He was followed closely by Dino Linden and Karl Winn who both shot 42's. For men over 71, the sudden death tie was won by Mac McLean over Robert Dickson after they both had a 42 at the end of regulation play.
