A New Beginning p. 2 OREGON BETA HEARTBEAT Man. "Oregon Beta exists to provide an environment within which men can identify, pursue, and achieve their fullest possible potential. By doing so, we will establish ourselves as a local, regional, and national trailblazer." Our mission statement has provided the groundwork for our improvement and we look forward to getting better each and every day. Oregon Beta Creates New Leaders Oregon Beta is full of high-caliber gentlemen, and in order to live up to our potential, the first essential step made by our Chapter was to create a culture of accountability and recommit ourselves to the values of the Balanced Man Program. In doing so, we have created more than 30 new leadership positions held by members of all classes. By creating 30 new leaders, we have created a new wave of excitement throughout the house, and look forward to a strong spring term where we will unveil our first philanthropy, SigEp Spacejam, focused on raising awareness for Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) through the American Lung Association. A Brother in Need We chose ARDS because it was a cause that we could all rally around. One of our brothers, Michael Mason '17, fell victim to ARDS last spring term and has since been fighting bravely on his path to recovery. Michael has undergone multiple surgeries, including a double-lung transplant, but despite that, he has remained steadfast and confident that he will return to finish his degree in public relations. His unwavering inability to give up and always see the silver lining even in the darkest of times has inspired us all, and we look forward to helping Mike and raising awareness for a rare disease that has truly affected us all. Oregon Beta has realized its potential to be a trailblazing Chapter in the Pacific Northwest. We are on the path to becoming a high-caliber Chapter, and we are thrilled to continue improving grades, host our first-ever philanthropy, and live up to the values of the Balanced Man Program.
