6 Lyre Notes CHAPTER ETERNAL Mary Matthews Tuttle '48 entered Chapter Eternal on August 9, 2015, in Danville, Calif., due to complications following cardiac arrest. She leaves behind many dear friends from the greater San Francisco area community, as well as family in Missouri, Alaska, Oregon, Washington, Oklahoma, Texas and Kansas. She spent 25 years teaching elementary school in Prairie Home and Davidson Elementary in Kansas City, Mo., as well as Maumee, Ohio; Richland, Wash.; and Pleasanton, Calif. She was active with the local Chambers of Commerce, the Community Presbyterian Church of Danville and the Danville/Sycamore Valley Rotary, with a special interest in supporting the Paradise Adolescent Home. Her dedication to community service was recognized with the Danville Citizen of the Year Award in 2014. Mary is survived by her daughter, Susan Tuttle Morse, and son- in-law, Robert Morse, of Anchorage, Alaska, and her granddaughter, Marian Jean Gilmore, of West Linn, Ore. She is also survived by seven siblings: Gerald of Pasco, Wash.; Robert of Shelbourne, Ind.; Lee Hickman of Prairie Village, Kan.; Joseph of St. Louis, Mo.; Laurel Dale of Macon, Mo.; Sue Lauhoff of Milford, Texas, and Gary of Owasso, Okla. Mary's faith, energy, lively spirit, love of charity and goodwill were self-evident to those who knew her. Karen Duchek '60 entered Chapter Eternal on October 28, 2015. Karen was a beloved daughter of the late William and Mildred Duchek; a dear cousin, niece, friend and neighborhood historian; hero to her dogs, Tori and Sparki; BFF for 45 years to Patricia and Glenn Nolan; and Auntie Dutch to Sherry Nolan Everding, John Nolan and Jeanne Nolan Williams. She was a contract designer for Famous Barr and a retiree from Schnucks Market. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. ALUMNAE NEWS Gloria Anderson Pellom '47 lives in an independent living retirement home, La Vida Real, in El Cajon, Calif. Gloria enjoys many activities there including exercise classes, painting classes and entertaining the other residents by playing the piano. Email: lovenlucy@hotmail.com Marilyn Lippy Lampson '55 and her husband, John, have two children: Michael, who lives in Charlotte, N.C., and Jeffrey, who lives in Cleveland, Ohio. Marilyn and her husband have been on many foreign trips and they spend the summer at their home on Lake Erie in Ashtabula, Ohio. They spend winters at their home in Florida. Email: bcrouch1@charter.net Carmen Vance '61 retired from the University of Connecticut in 1997. To keep busy, she became active in local politics. Carmen recently served as the first selectman of Columbia, Conn., which is similar to mayor. She continues to follow UCONN women's basketball. Email: cvance@charter.net Nancy Maute Waggener '71 teaches drawing to homeschoolers to help pay for her own art classes. She works part time at the local indie bookstore and loves to read, draw, knit and garden. She would love to hear from members from 1970-73. Nancy wishes she could find Janis Thompson '72 and Marilyn Musick '72! She occasionally visits her 95-year-old mother who lives in Chesterfield. Nancy and Barb Ballance Schnelle '71 reconnected after 25 years. "We look marvelous!" She met Kathy Crawford Goldstein, Delta Chi '72, Gale Hendricks Chisholm '72 and Marilyn Brewer Stortstrom, Delta Epsilon '72 in Charleston for a spring break reunion. Email: lkh929@earthlink.net Mary Unger Hannig '76 and her husband, Norm, moved to the rolling hills of horse country and wineries in Defiance, Mo., after living in St. Louis for more than 20 years. They now enjoy living closer to a winery than to a grocery store. Mary shares that the commute to her office is longer, but the peace and quiet and wide open spaces make it all worthwhile. She is still trying to figure out how to play golf and how to retire to play golf. Mary also hopes to get to Mizzou more often so she can reconnect.
