i i i 5 Alpha Chi Omega A lpha Nu raised nearly $16,000 for the chapter's philanthropy last October, national Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Throughout the month, members held several events with all proceeds going to True North, a shelter for women and children in Columbia. Events included hosting informational tables during the university's Speaker's Circle to raise awareness for the main fundraising event: Desserts and Pies with Alpha Chis. Women also canned around Columbia to raise money. Desserts and Pies with Alpha Chis took place from 10 p.m. until 2 a.m. October 16, in the chapter's dining room. For $5 per person, participants could eat as much as they wanted from a selection of desserts made by members. Entertainment featured sisters who performed solo songs and sang duets. There also was a Mr. Alpha Chi competition, requiring contestants to perform a talent act and answer a few trivia questions. Judges included the chapter president and House Director Mom Suzie. October 18, the chapter hosted Volley Against Violence, a volleyball tournament with 14 teams participating. Two members served as coaches for each team and each team represented a fun theme. Some of the themes were Shark Week, America and fraternity jerseys. The final match came down to the men of Phi Gamma Delta and the men of Sigma Pi. It was a close game, as both teams won one round. In the final game, Sigma Pi pulled ahead and won the first-place trophy. The sisters of Alpha Nu had a blast raising money for such a great cause.
