C aroline Wilson-McBride '87 always saw herself attending the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She knew it was going to be a great fit and felt lucky and honored to go to such a great state school. Upon arriving, Caroline knew that she wanted to get involved and meet new people, and Pi Chapter was just the place for her to do that. "What I liked most about Gamma Phi Beta were the people," Caroline says. "I felt like I fit in well with them. One of my favorite memories is when a few sisters and I drove to Padre Island, Texas, for spring break. It was about a 24-hour drive, but once we got there, it was a blast." Maintaining communication with her sisters is important to Caroline to this day. She connects with sisters on Facebook and at occasional reunions. Her oldest niece, Hannah Goracke '13, is a senior Pi Chapter member. Hannah's Gamma Phi membership is special to Caroline and helped her get reactivated with the chapter and its activities. Caroline's advice to collegians and younger alumnae is to use the network of people around you. "Create ongoing opportunities to network," she says. "You never know who you are going to meet, who you're going to talk to, and who knows who. Use your networks of friends, family, and coworkers. Gamma Phi taught me the importance of creating friendships and keeping them going." After graduation, Caroline worked at Commercial Federal Bank for five years before starting her own digital marketing agency, Rebel Interactive. For 17 years, Caroline and her spouse, MJ, have worked with hundreds of local and national businesses. "I didn't hold back and just went for it," she says. "Sometimes you have to step out on a skinny branch, and it's uncomfortable. But it's worth it when you are in control of your own destiny and have the freedom to be. Success comes down to how committed you are and how bad you want it." Caroline and MJ live in downtown Omaha with their Boston terrier, Bella. She enjoys walking Bella, entertaining, cooking, watching Netflix, and boating in Okoboji, Iowa, during the summer. Caroline's community involvement includes volunteering with Mid- America Boston Terrier Rescue, serving on the Omaha Downtown Improvement District Association Board (ODIDA), The Rows at Soma Homeowners Association, and the Old Market Business Association. Caroline can be reached at caroline@rebel-interactive.com. A Slice of Pi page 2 W e are truly grateful to the dedicated alumnae who donated to Pi Chapter's fall 2015 annual campaign appeal. Your generosity is greatly appreciated as we focus on reducing our mortgage debt and providing educational resources to our undergraduate members.
