REDDING Salon–fineartexhibition LittleBridge-SharonMcKelvey The Motown Experi- ence is an all-star lineup of world-class vocalists drawn from the ranks of the legendary groups, in- cluding members of The Capitols (Cool Jerk), The Miracles (Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame and Hollywood Walk Of Fame Inductees) and The Temptations. The group is scheduled to perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 22 at Red Bluff's State Theatre, 333 Oak St. The Motown Sound was called the sound of young America, but it be- came the soundtrack of the lives of generations around the world for more than 50 years. The Motown catalog includes some of the most endur- ing songs in popular mu- sic, with the most univer- sal appeal of any musi- cal form. Motown music has such strong musical hooks that it has repeat- edly been used in every- thing from movie sound tracks to commercials for the last 50 years, provid- ing some of the most rec- ognizable songs in music history. The show is jam-packed with impeccable harmo- nies, dazzling choreogra- phy, and those timeless Motown grooves that ev- eryone knows and loves. You can choose to dance, sing along, or just sit back and watch the show as they perform all of the greatest hits from the likes of The Temptations, The Miracles, The Four Tops, Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder. Every performance contains that unmistak- able Motown stamp, in- cluding flashy suits, great singing and dancing and a polished show that has set the bar for every vo- cal artist since the late 1950s. The backup band is made up of seasoned per- formers who have been the musicians of choice for hundreds of Motown, nostalgia, classic rock and doo wop shows around the country. They have both live performance and re- cording credits with a ver- itable who's who of popu- lar music artists from the '50s, '60s and '70s. Tickets are on sale at www.statetheatreredbluff. com or Tehama Country Visitor Center, 250 Ante- lope Blvd. in Red Bluff. Banff Film Festival, 7:30 p.m. April 8, $10-15 Adventure Outings, Chico Performances, and the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour have come together to bring the world's most exciting ad- venture films to audiences around the globe. The Banff films showcase the best in adventure films, from rock climbing to big mountain skiing and everything in between. Arlo Gunthrie, 7:30 p.m. April 10, $10-40 Famed folk troubadour Arlo Guthrie returns to Chico to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the tale of Alice's Restaurant massa- cre. The now infamous in- cident depicted in the song occurred on Thanksgiving Day 1965, although Guth- rie's hilariously satiric re- telling of the tale was re- leased on album in 1967. The song has become a counter-cultural touch point, though it was far too long at the time to fit on a 45 record and receive pop radio airplay. Arlo is a folk musician in the classic sense, and the opportunity to experience the musical monologue that launched his career does not come often. Circa: Carnival of the Animals, 7:30 p.m. April 13, $10-35 From Brisbane, Austra- lia, comes a bold new vi- sion of contemporary cir- cus taking the world by storm and rising to be- come the most acclaimed circus ensemble in the world. Carnival of the An- imals is a multimedia re- working of the Camille Saint-Saëns classical musi- cal suite into a circus spec- tacle for all ages. In creat- ing it, Circa made a work of sophisticated and de- lightful family entertain- ment, at once contempo- rary and old-world. A Circa performance is physically astounding, crammed with amazing circus skills including aerials, acrobat- ics, tumbling, table slid- ing, and skipping. Bryan Stevenson: Just Mercy, 7:30 p.m. April 19, free to $10 Bryan Stevenson is the founder and executive di- rector of the Equal Jus- tice Initiative, a Montgom- ery, Alabama-based non profit committed to fight- ing poverty and challeng- ing racial discrimination in the criminal justice system. He has won relief for doz- ens of condemned prison- ers, argued five times be- fore the Supreme Court, and won national acclaim for his work challenging bias against the poor and people of color.
