"Our second annual Valentine's Day fundraiser is sure to warm your heart," said Rocky Winslow, director of Jazz Studies. "The silver-screen has brought us some of our most romantic jazz music ever, including Alfie and Moon River, which we hope to perform." Other works presented during Love from the Movies will include Top Hat, and the themes from Wizard of Oz, West Side Story and Officer and a Gentleman, to name a few. Composers whose works will be fea- tured include Cole Porter, Burt Bacharach, Marvin Hamlisch, and Henry Mancini. Faculty performers participating in this event include Winslow (trum- pet), Greg D'Augelli (standup bass and saxophone), Dan Kinkle (drums), Grant Levin (piano) and other Chico State faculty members. "Vocals will once again be provid- ed by our special and very talented friends, John and Joey Mahoney," said Winslow. While the music is being per- formed there will be clips from sever- al romantic movies that will be shown on a screen behind the ensemble. Love from the Movies! Is a fundraiser for the Jazz X-Press' sum- mer trip to Colorado where it will perform at the Telluride Music Festi- val. Shasta series REDDING — Visit Turtle Bay in Redding at 7 tonight for the first of a stimulating three part series of talks cen- tered on the exhibition The Art of Mt. Shasta. The talks will be given by local art historian Bill Meisse, one of the guest curators of the exhibition along with Robyn G. Peterson, and the author of Mount Shasta: an Annotated Bibliography and Sudden and Solitary: Mount Shasta and its Artistic Legacy. Meisse specializes in the scholarly exploration of Cali- fornia's history, including the works of John Muir, Joaquin Miller and other Mount Shasta legends. Schedule is as follows: Tonight at 7 — How the Navy came to Mount Shasta and Redding in 1841: The Wilkes Expedition, The Found- ing of the Smithsonian and the first painting of Mt. Shasta. Thursday, Feb. 11, 7 p.m. — The San Francisco Art Renaissance of 1860 -1880: Thousands of paintings of Mt. Shasta, Yosemite, and Mt. Tamalpais as Icons of the Sub- lime. Thursday, Feb. 18, 7 p.m. — Mount Shasta, 6000 BCE — 2000 AD: Sacred in the Life and Art of the native peo- ples of Northern California. All three lectures take place in the Visitor Center.
