Sigma Chi 3 American shale production division for BHP Billiton Petroleum and as president and chief operating officer of Petrohawk Energy Corporation before transitioning to the New York private equity firm, Pine Brook Partners. Dick currently represents Pine Brook as a director of Red Bluff Resources, LLC and Wagon Wheel Exploration, LLC. The success Dick has achieved in his career pursuits could not have been possible without his experiences at UT. His memories and friendships with the brothers of Alpha Nu perfectly balance his work life. "This Fraternity creates a bond with friends, which does not occur outside an organization like Sigma Chi," Dick said. "Initiation week created a lasting bond with my pledge brothers that I will always remember and be proud of." He has remained close to his brothers and the Chapter in his post-graduate years. "There is a group in Houston that meets once a month for lunch, and I visit the Chapter House a couple times a year during football season and always run into guys from my era," he said. As an alumnus, Dick has been impressed with the strength of the undergraduate Chapter. "It is stronger than it has been in decades," Dick said. He encourages all alumni who have not been to the Chapter House in recent years to come and see the improvements the Chapter has made. Dick and his wife, Terre, live in Houston and have three grown daughters. When not engaged in work, Dick can be found at his lake house in northeast Texas, boating, entertaining, water skiing, wake boarding, and wake surfing. CHOOSING TRADITION (Continued from page 1) Alpha Nu Breaks Fundraising Records $100,000 Raised for Fight Night T he Alpha Nu Chapter of Sigma Chi has continued to have great success over the past year. Academically, philanthropically, and socially, our Chapter has improved and thrived, and looks forward to continued improvement to do so over the course of 2016. Academically Driven Academically, Alpha Nu has once again ranked amongst the best fraternities on campus. With a GPA of 3.17 for the fall semester, we ranked 13th. "Scholarship is taken very seriously here, and it is my job to push every member to succeed academically every semester," Scholarship Chairman Rami Asi '18 said. Setting Fundraising Records Philanthropically, our Chapter has seen tremendous success in charitable fundraising and volunteering. Last year, the Chapter raised over $140,000, including a national Sigma Chi record of $100,000 raised for Fight Night. In addition to fundraising, dozens of brothers have volunteered hundreds of hours mentoring students at Wooldridge Elementary School. "At Alpha Nu, philanthropy is not only one of the most important, but also one of the most enjoyable things that we do," Annotator Wil Fowler '17 said. Preparing for Derby Days Alpha Nu's largest spring philanthropy event, Derby Days, is right around the corner, and this year's event is sure to be another success. The event pits each UT sorority against the other as they compete to raise the most money and be crowned the "Derby Champion." Last year's event coordinator, Ryder Magoo '16, said, "No other philanthropy event in Austin has as much participation from the entire Greek community as Derby Days, and that high level of participation is what makes the event special." Active on Campus On campus, our brothers hold numerous elected and appointed positions of power and influence. From financial directors in student government to leadership positions in investment banking, engineering, and pre-med organizations, our brothers recognize the importance of campus involvement. Thank You Parents and Alumni None of the aforementioned accomplishments could have been possible without the help of our great parents and alumni. Our Parent's Club was even recognized nationally as the best Parent's Club by the Sigma Chi Headquarters this past summer. We will host a Parent's Weekend and the Audrey Freeman Golf Classic in April for alumni. The state of our Chapter has never been stronger. With thousands of dollars raised for charity, numerous leadership positions for brothers on campus, a top 15 GPA ranking, and one successful recruitment after another, our Chapter has become one of the most respected Fraternities in Austin. Even though our progress has been great, we are continually striving to improve ourselves, our community, and our university. It is this hunger for further success that gives me the confidence to say our Chapter will continue to thrive for years to come. Fraternally, Carter Figueroa '17 Consul (972) 653-0708 zcarterfig@utexas.edu Brothers Chris Simon '18, Adam Khan '16, Alex Bain '18, and Moe Salas '18 volunteered with students from Wooldridge Elementary School, a valued volunteer partner of Alpha Nu.
