S isterhood. We talk about it all the time, but how do we build the bonds of sisterhood at DDD? Like everything in this world nowadays, it is not quite like it was in our day. With the size of our Chapter continuing to grow, alumnae wonder how all these members bond or even get to know everyone. But yet we see that more than ever, our collegiate members gather at the DDD house as the epicenter of their college experience. As the campus becomes more pedestrian friendly, the DDD house is the spot for studying, eating, hanging out with friends, participating in sisterhood events and philanthropy activities, and all the ways members support each other and the community as a whole. You should be so proud of this Chapter and these collegians. They not only are smart, good students, but they reach out in so many ways to help others and to make a difference in the world. Not wanting to rest on their laurels as the top fundraising Chapter for St. Jude two years ago, they added another fundraiser this year in conjunction with Parents' Weekend. Miracles on the River included a silent auction and a visit from our sponsored family at St. Jude. Through activities such as these, the Chapter works together for the good of others and learns along the way not only how powerful they can be in changing lives, but how the bonds and memories they build now will follow them throughout life. Another event this year reminds me about the bonds of sisterhood. Dale Wilson Kennington '55, whose beautiful artwork is displayed in many prominent sites, including the Smithsonian Museum of Art (Washington), Mennello Museum of Art (Orlando), and the Delta Delta Delta House (Tuscaloosa), was hosted at a reception by UA on February 11. Her work is featured by a UA exhibit during February and March. Dale's DDD sisters, Patty Camp Faulkner '56, Virginia "Tuts" Manderson Woollen '57, Teri Simmons '56, Lynn Barner Wood '57, and Judy Forsythe Phipps '56, as well as several of her newest sisters from the Chapter, attended. The connections we make as DDD sisters span decades. It was so nice to finally meet Dale and thank her in person for her generous donation to Tri Delta. Thank you to those making donations of silver and crystal serving pieces. Sarah Jane Garner '63, Carolyn Carson Dahl '75, and Julie Hall Friedman '79 donated beautiful pieces that will be put to good use. We can still use more as we host so many large events. If you have some, especially large silver trays, that you no longer use and want them put to good use, please contact me. Every home always has a project. As we continue working on finishing touches, each year we identify the most pressing needs for the best use of the house. As you continue to honor your "100 Years of Sisterhood" campaign pledges as we near completion of the five-year mark, we are always thankful for any size gifts that you may also make directly to House Corporation that can be used for ongoing projects. Last year, with your help, we began work on the basement areas, adding chairs for the chapter room and furniture for the standards room. We are also recovering furniture for the scholastic center. As we complete these projects, we have identified two needs for this year. We would like to add decorative artwork to the dining room, probably the most used and visible room in the house. Also, as UA has added a much-needed and convenient Magnolia Parking Deck behind DDD, the rear of our house is much more visible and accessible to all. We plan to add our DDD letters, a more handsome door, Delta Delta Delta • University of Alabama Spring 2016 The Crescent Summer Morrissette '14, Baylor Jeffries '14, Busy Hopper '13, Dale Wilson Kennington '55, and Joan Mcgill '13.
