A
s an undergraduate, Scott Bertelsmeyer '98
was thankful for the alumni before him that had
built and expanded the Chapter House. He realized
the true costs of operating and maintaining a house
aren't completed by the chapter members, and now
as an alumnus, he knew it was his time to give back.
"I'm not sure the Chapter has a long-term future
without an updated Chapter House," Scott says.
"Without the upgrades, the existing house will
become more and more expensive to maintain and
will become a detriment to recruitment."
He was compelled to join ΛXA because his uncle, Jim
Bertelsmeyer '66, and his father, Jack Bertelsmeyer
'70, were members of Alpha-Delta Zeta. Seeing how
close his father and his Fraternity brothers were made
a lasting impression on Scott. Once he made a trip to
Rolla to visit the Chapter House, he was sold.
Scott believes that the social aspect of college is just
as important as the academic portion, and fortunately,
ΛXA enhanced both. Some of his favorite memories
as an undergraduate were the simple ones, such as
quiet afternoons on the deck spent with brothers.
He is fortunate to work with three Alpha-Delta Zeta
brothers: his father, Jack, Curt Hertel '70, and Matt
Naglich '13. He keeps in contact with other brothers
on a weekly basis and is planning a trip with Rob
Sutton '98 and his wife, Katie.
He encourages all alumni to donate to Honoring
Our Past, Securing Our Future—every bit makes a
difference. "If you have ever considered giving back
to ΛXA, I can't think of a better time to do so," Scott
says. "This is something important and something
that will be a tangible improvement to the house."
Scott works at Power Supply Industries as a
mechanical engineer in the energy auditing group.
His father, Jack, is retiring this summer, and Scott will
take over as co-owner and president. In his free time,
he enjoys competing in local mountain bike races and
spending time with his wife, Jill, his two sons, Levi
(4) and Nathan (2), and his Doberman/poodle rescue
puppy, Pete. E-mail: scottbertelsmeyer@yahoo.com
