O U R N E E D S A N D O P P O R T U N I T I E S W hile the Gamma Phi experience is certainly more than a physical structure, our lodge undoubtedly plays a significant role in the development of our sisters and is a proud symbol of our shared values and goals. Built in 1971, #19 Greek Circle has been a part of Gamma Phi's legacy for 43 years. It has become clear that we must make a major investment in our lodge if we are to remain competitive among the other sorority chapters on the Texas Tech campus, provide a quality meeting and study environment for all of our members, and otherwise support our collegiate sisters. KEEPING OUR SISTERS SAFE The safety of our 230 collegiate members is of utmost importance to the Gamma Phi Facility Corporation. Challenges with outdated kitchen, HVAC units, and an inadequate number of bathrooms, coupled with limited square footage, have caused the Facility Corporation to explore a major construction project to address these needs and ensure the safety of our members. Much like our personal homes, our lodge must be a safe haven that instills confidence in our members and their parents. PURSUING EXCELLENCE Texas Tech is as academically challenging now as ever. With over 30,000 students on campus, the need for an en- hanced, quiet, well-lit, and comfortable study space within our facility is necessary for our members to achieve. In ad- dition, the ever-changing technological tools and devices used by college students demand study areas that are not only compatible with today's students' technology needs but also flexible enough to accommodate technological ad- vances in the future. Our plan will ensure that Gamma Phi continues to excel academically, by providing function- al and appealing study areas to our collegiate sisters and further enabling these young women to remain scholastic leaders on campus and within the Greek system. PRESERVING OUR LEGACY Kappa Alpha Theta's importance to Texas Tech University must not be understated. Membership in the Gamma Phi Chapter helps create a support system and deeper connec- tion to Texas Tech by providing a sense of belonging and community within the university campus. Additionally, with an increase of women going through recruitment at Texas Tech each year, our lodge can no longer adequately accommodate our members and potential new members during events. Space is limited, and this not only impacts recruitment, but also creates a challenge to accommodate members for weekly chapter meetings and for appropriate storage of recruitment, ritual and archival materials. SETTING THETA APART Recently, other sororities at Texas Tech University have responded to their aging facilities' needs and the increased competition in recruiting ever-larger numbers of young women each year by investing or planning to invest mil- lions of dollars toward substantially upgrading their facili- ties, including Chi Omega, Delta Gamma, and Pi Beta Phi. In addition, numerous fraternities on campus have made or are completing major changes to their facilities. The Texas Tech Greek system remains strong. In the face of this en- vironment and financial commitment of other chapters on campus, we cannot allow Theta to be left behind. PAGE 3
