FA R M H O U S E F R AT E R N I T Y * WA S H I N G T O N S TAT E U N I V E R S I T Y * S P R I N G 2 0 1 6 G reetings, FarmHouse brothers and friends! My name is Jared Beck '08 and I have the great honor of leading the alumni association as president. I want to start this newsletter by thanking Matthew O'Callaghan '08, who was acting association president from February to October 2015. Matt volunteered to take over while I was away for career training. Under his leadership, your association has thrived. I hope to continue Matt and the board's success to make the 2014-16 biennium the best FarmHouse Washington State has seen. I am happy to report that the board set a new record at the association meeting this past Homecoming weekend. The association board was able to take care of business in less than one hour! Meeting monthly by phone has allowed the board to spread the workload throughout the year. Not only has this shortened our biannual association meetings, but it allows us to get more done and use face- to-face time for what this fraternity was meant for: brotherhood! Thanks to Eric Hausken '98 and other dedicated alumni, there was plenty of brotherhood celebration at Homecoming 2015. Thank you to those brothers who made it to the Homecoming activities and our fall meeting. On February 20, we had our spring association meeting, followed by a day of brotherhood events. If you were unable to attend, don't worry, as there will be plenty more opportunities for brotherhood bonding this year. Several more regional alumni events throughout the state are in the works. In addition to our local events, this is a Conclave year. Conclave will be held in Denver, Colo., August 3-7. With this Conclave being relatively close to the West Coast, we are hoping for a big Washington State turnout. I am confident in saying the board is living our creed as "Builder of Men," but this fraternity requires more than the efforts of seven men if progress is to mark our every step. I have said it before, and I will say it again; not every strong alumni association has a good chapter, but every good chapter has a strong alumni association. If you would like to get involved, please contact a board member. This could be volunteering for a committee, helping out at a regional event, or even recommending a promising young man for membership. However you choose, please make a sacrifice of time, pleasures, or comforts so that generations to come will have the same opportunities you were afforded. With your help, I know we can continue to achieve greatness!
