The 67 youth were disappointed they could not receive their earned participation pin nor the award for shooting 1st, 2nd or 3rd in their age group. It is not the value of the pins but the disappointment in their The disappointment of the faces that hurt the most. Jeanne George, Red Bluff Doggone David Axelrod, in an interview with Andrea Mitchell admitted that Obama is the first dog-eat- ing president in the history of the United States of America. This admission only came after the Obama campaign's story about the Romneys tying their dog on top of their car while driving to Canada on vacation and saying, paraphrasing, Mitt Romney did- n't qualify to adopt a pet, back- fired. Then came the Obama dog-eating jokes and the liberals went ballistic about how inap- propriate the jokes were. In an effort to convince every- body that eating dog meat is no big deal, Obama himself told some dog-eating jokes at the Correspondents Dinner on Satur- day, April 28, and with the help of the liberal media it may work. politicians Editor: Obama's top gun-slinger, In any case, it seems Obama has a better sense of humor than many of his up-tight supporters that think dog-eating jokes are inappropriate. He, Obama, put dog-eating jokes at the top of the menu. Now, should the up-tight supporters apologize to those they accused of being inappropriate? ed attack Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer said, in effect, that Romney couldn't get women to vote for him because he came from polygamist family background. The fact of the mat- ter is, you have to go back to Romney's great-grandfather, who was a polygamist, and died in 1904. Now, compare Romney's background to Obama's. In the Democrat — feminist friendly — party we have a president who is from a long-line of polyg- amists; the fact is we have a pres- ident who is the first in his line that is not a polygamist. Oh yes, Obama's great-grandfather had a total of five wives, one more than Romney's great-grandfather. The fact that Obama has a polygamist background, 100 years more recent, won't get as much coverage from the media as Gov. Schweitzer's slander attempt. In another attempt- Les Wolfe, Red Bluff Are foods made with geneti- cally modified organisms (GMOs) safe? Well, that pretty much depends on who you ask. GMOs Editor Your Turn Some researchers at SIU (Southern Illinois University) will tell you GMOs a perfectly safe. They experimented with 56 piglets fed GMO corn. Bits of the foreign gene (transgene) were detected in the stomachs of 50 of the 56 piglets, but were found in only one of the samples taken from the small intestine. They thus speculate that the addi- tional gene or trans- gene, generally does not survive the digestive process. No traces of the trans- gene were found in piglets' feces, flesh, or blood. However staff at the University of Sherbrooke in Quebec, Canada have a slightly different opinion. They found BT toxin, a compo- nent of some genetically-modified crops, in human blood samples. They say their study shreds the false notion that Bt is broken down by the digestive system. Monsanto and other biotechnolo- gy corporations will assure you GMOs are perfectly safe. But with restraints put on independent studies because of patent infringe- ment fears, the general public is forced to rely on biotech corpora- tion's word for safety assurances. Obama recently installed Roger Beachy, a career Monsanto executive as director of the USDA's newly created National Institute of Food and Agriculture. Do you see a revolving door sys- tem here? Oh, by the way, it is estimat- ed that 70 percent of supermar- ket products contain some GMO elements. Anti-bullying advocate advocates bullying Commentary Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr., "is like the pupil of the eye; the more light you pour upon it, the more it will contract." In other words, bigots tend to shrink in size and weight the closer they get to the truth. This appears to be the case with one such bigot who happens to be the founder of the "It Gets Better" project - - an organization endorsed by the Obama administration cre- ated to provide encouragement to bullied lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender teens. The organization's founder, "The mind of a bigot," wrote Dan Savage, seems to have become the very thing he fights against. Recently speaking about bullying before a group of teenage journalists, Savage went on an anti-Bible rant and said "We can learn to ignore the bulls—t in the Bible about gay people," and then called the teens that walked out of the lec- ture in protest, "pansy-as-es." This case is not isolated. While on the Bill Maher's "Real Time" television show awhile back, Savage said he "sometimes thinks about fuc- ing the sh-t out of" former GOP presidential contender Rick Santorum. It is one thing to dis- agree with someone's religious beyond the Bible and Christian- ity to the Republican Party. It obviously makes little differ- ence to Savage that the GOP has rejected two Evangelical Christians and currently leans in favor of a Mormon to be their presidential nominee. Savage continued, during the same teen journalist conference, with an over-the-top, tongue-in-cheek comment, "We don't know where the GOP is going these days" -- referring to the ancient practice of stoning to death sex- ually active unmarried women. Much like what the West- boro Baptist extremist group does, Savage cherry picks scriptures and provides twisted, if any, context. beliefs and quite another to sug- gest punishing them for those beliefs by committing a homo- sexual rape crime. Savage's contempt extends Savage are cowards and pick on those whom they feel they have power over. Christians are easy targets because they normally do not retaliate, unlike some in the Muslim world who still practice stoning. Bible believers do not stone people because of the example set by Jesus. Jesus addressed the practice of stoning the time Bullies like he approached a group of reli- gious zealots that had surround- ed an adulterous woman. The Bible tells us Jesus knelt down and scribbled in the sand. My guess is he was listing the names of her sexual partners, which may have included those standing in the circle. Jesus told them the only ones qualified to throw stones were those without sin. Jesus shined the light of truth and, with stones in hand, the bullies fled the scene in shame. As was the custom at the time, Jesus was within his rights to pick up a stone, but instead offered grace and mercy. Con- text is everything. I don't have to politicize this issue because the gay conserva- tive group GOProud has done it for me by demanding Savage renounce his bigotry. Accord- ing to the website, examiner.com, GOProud exec- utive director Jimmy LaSalvia went on the record saying, "Dan Savage's outrageous anti- Christian tirade hurts, not helps, the fight for gay rights in this country." Susan Brown gets-better. administration speaks out against bullying, but should do so free of ties to one using his organization as a bully pulpit to assert personal prejudice. The Obama administration should renounce their support for this orga- nization that seems more like a front to vent hatred than a vehicle to advance understanding.
