"I will do my best, to do my duty, to God and my Country..." These words are so familiar to many Americans, though I'd dare say that most people do not know their origin. Of course, it's The Boy Scout Oath. Forty words, that for decades, have identified and recognized the Boy Scouts of America and their monumental achievement of creating an institution where the sole mission and purpose of the organization was to instill integrity, pride and character into millions of young men across the nation. able to live more fulfilling lives and to better serve humanity. I truly believe this. I guess this where the Boy Scouts of America motto "Be Prepared" comes from. So, congratulations, Eagle Scout Nick Thagard, Troop 395 Occoneechee Council, Impeesa District. We love you and are extremely proud of you. Here's another thought: This being said, I must take a point of personal privilege to share with you that this weekend my wife and I had the pleasure of attending our 17-year-old grandson's Eagle Scout Court of Honor. This event, celebrated with friends and family, was the pinnacle of his life-long Scouting career and the beginning of a life filled with anticipation, virtue and purpose. During the ceremony, I was reminded that earning recognition as an Eagle Scout is no easy task.
