The last major update occurred more than six years ago. The redesign process spanned a bit over six months, involving City staff from the Information Technology and Corporate Communications departments, and close coordination with Vision Internet, a firm that has developed hundreds of municipal websites across the country with citizens in mind. The backdrop for the site is a compelling City-related photograph which we can change out as desired. The navigation menu across the top of the site is divided into several "buckets" of information, to include Community, Business and Development, Government, and a "How Do I" section that allows residents to quickly locate the most used information citizens typically seek on our site. Along the left side of the site, we have featured additional headings that bring citizens to our Fayetteville OutFront site (community engagement), FayTV, Permits and Inspections, Parks and Recreation, Public Safety (Police and Fire/Emergency Services), and Public Transportation (Regional Airport and Fayetteville Area System of Transit). The intent is to clearly define specific areas within City staff and services so our citizens can find information quickly and easily. For those items which cannot be easily located, a search bar is included that scans our site for all words relevant to a citizen's search. We've included a Hot Topics section at the top of the site to showcase items of an urgent or timely nature. An emergency banner can also be activated across the top of the page in the event of a crisis or natural disaster, pointing citizens to the most up-to-date and relevant information. Below the main photograph and navigation menus, a section titled "Around the City" showcases up to four events, services, or otherwise noteworthy items which we want to provide visibility to our citizens. To the right of "Around the City," calendar items are posted under Events, Meetings, or Public Notices. These tabs contain the latest information on events in which citizens might want to participate. At the bottom of the page is a Social Media Center which contains links to all the City's social media sites, as well as a City-scape we created to showcase substantial City landmarks. The Corporate Communications department manages the overall responsibility for the site, ably assisted by our Information Technology team. Sections across the site are managed by content managers within each department. All updates can be done in a secure manner by City staff from iPhones, Androids, tablets, or any computer. This makes the system easily updated whenever and wherever it is needed. One of the best updates to the site, besides drastically changing how the information is presented, is the fact that the site is now accessible on mobile phones and tablets. In fact, more than 37% of our site traffic comes from mobile phones and tablets. The site resides on a secure server with redundancy outside the City area so that in the event of an emergency, the site can remain functional and accessible to both city staff for updates and citizens to obtain information. We hope our new website will make it easier for citizens to find information about our City. Statistics indicate that before the redesign, we obtained about 81,000 page views per month, and after the redesign, those page views increased to an average of 154,000 page views per month for the November-December-January timeframe. We'd like to see the number of page views and visitors continue to climb. I also hope this is an indication that the site is serving our citizens' needs and welcome your input and feedback on the site.
