A recent (The Fayetteville Obser ver) newspaper editorial st ated there are
eight former council members opposed to the Park s and Rec Bond. How
soon we forget . Cit izens should remember that Rober t Massey, Cur t is
Wor thy, Paul Williams, Juanit a Gonzalez and Lois K irby were members
of the cit y council that " inf licted" the Big Bang upon us. It is easy to
t alk and crit icize, but the present council is t r y ing to allow cit izens to
object ively make informed decisions about the f ut ure of Fayet tev ille.
W hat did they do to enhance signif icant grow th and development for the
cit y? These are the same people who did nothing about broken-dow n
buses and buses catching on f ire and a host of other shor tcomings while
they were in of f ice. Mrs. Applewhite was t w ice rejected by cit izens as
mayor because of her v iews. Jerr y Reinoehl was rejected by the cit izens
of Dist rict #1 for cit y council. Former Councilman Don Talbot was angr y
because he wasn't appointed to the NC St ate Veterans Park Commission.
He then sent an email to council st at ing no one on council k new any-
thing about the milit ar y, when in fact there were four ret irees on coun-
cil, each w ith more than t went y years of milit ar y ser v ice: Applewhite,
Bates, Mohn and Crisp. The naysayers are going on radio and are v isit ing
communit y watch meet ings t r y ing to conv ince cit izens to vote against
the bond package. Here is my point: The present council has v ision to
improve this cit y, but the ult imate decision is for the cit izens to decide
on the bond. As I v isit groups I answer their quest ions fact ually in order
to allow cit izens to make their ow n informed decisions on March 15.
