Beta Tau ConnSKtion Beta Tau Chapter House Corporation of Sigma Kappa Sorority at the University of Florida Spring 2016 Our Time to Lead Beta Tau Prepares for a New Year S igma Kappa is having a historic year. Donna Crain King, Epsilon Rho '76, Eastern Washington University was installed as the chairman of the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC), the premier advocacy and support organization for the advancement of the sorority experience. This leadership opportunity only rotates around to Sigma Kappa every 50 years and Donna is only our third sister to lead NPC. "Our Time to Lead" became the motto for Sigma Kappa sisters to show our support for Donna and recognize this monumental honor for Sigma Kappa. Beta Tau is also kicking off a historic year. We will finish construction on our rebuilt home at 1108 E. Panhellenic Drive in time for fall recruitment. Our original house was built in 1955 and was home to Beta Tau sisters for over 60 years. Though it was once a top-of-the-line home, it was not built to withstand the chapter's exponential growth in the last 15 years. Our chapter has expanded from a 100-member average to more than 250 members. Our chapter should be very proud of this kind of success! It's definitely "Our Time to Lead!" Our chapter is the second of the original 11 sororities to rebuild on our own lot. With two new chapters coming to UF Panhellenic between 2015-17 and existing chapters considering various housing projects, our decision to rebuild at this crucial time will ensure that our chapter remains competitive and signifies our chapter is thriving. Our new home will be the outward face of the incredible sisterhood inside. Our collegiate sisters' accomplishments are praiseworthy to say the least. We have leaders in Student Senate, Florida Blue Key, Dance Marathon, and on the Dean's and President's lists each semester. Our sisters are donating their time and finances to Sigma Kappa philanthropies, as well as many other organizations of their own interests. Sisters are traveling the world together and getting internships (and careers!) with Sigma Kappa alumnae. My dream is that this new home gives our sisters a place to continue growing into smart, strong, and successful women who will lead our chapter to places far beyond my imagination. This exciting phase of Sigma Kappa history begins now! It's Our Time to Lead! Loyally, Jennifer Grinnan Lyons '04 President Beta Tau Chapter House Corporation A view of our new dining room.
