Ontheair College of the Siskiyous in Weed, which is aggres- sively recruiting her, or Feather River College in Quincy. While Feather River has a deeper program, Cota said she's likely to see more playing time at College of the Siskiyous, where the team's setter will be grad- uating in the spring. The next stop will be California State Univer- sity East Bay or Sacra- mento State University, where Cota said she plans to continue playing volley- ball while pursuing a de- gree in kinesiology with an eye on a career in physical therapy or training. Off the court, Cota is equally impressive. She is active in AVID and FFA, serves as a teacher's assis- tant for the school's dance class and has earned scho- lastic and athletic acco- lades from the Central Te- hama Kiwanis Club and Red Bluff Elks Lodge. Come spring, Cota plans to return to club volleyball action, which last sum- mer took her to Australia where she played both in- door and beach volleyball and came home with a bronze medal. Cota's graduation will leave a void at setter for the Bulldogs, but Konopka said he has three players who will vie for the spot. As for other standouts on the team, Konopka said he wouldn't be surprised to see other Bulldogs follow in Cota's footsteps. Sophomore Rachel Rog- ers led the league in kills with 429, was second in aces with 99 and third in hitting percentage at .314. Junior Liset Castillo was second in the league in hit- ting percentage at .340, third in kills with 393, fourth in digs with 339 and fifth in aces with 84. Cota FROM PAGE 1 the night, hitting three. The Spartans were led by junior Allyson Drury's 20 points while Miller, a freshman, scored 15 points and had four blocks. Kylee Kitchell had five points and seven rebounds. Winning, Miller and Sancia Velasquez each had 5 rebounds. Miller had 5 assists followed by Drury with 4 and Liz Baccala and Winning with 3 each. The Spartans (7-10) are in the midst of a four-game homestand and are sched- uled to host Chico (12-5) at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Spartans FROM PAGE 1 Wolves (7-2-1) at 6 tonight. As of Thursday after- noon, no stats had been posted for the boys' team. The Spartans (6-7-1) are scheduled to host the Chico Panthers (8-3-2) at 6 p.m. Wednesday. LOS MOLINOS The Bull- dogs took a home win Tuesday afternoon over the Durham Trojans, 6-2. As of Thursday after- noon, no stats had been posted for the game. The Bulldogs (8-5-1) were scheduled to face the Willows Honkers (8-4) on Thursday afternoon. Soccer FROM PAGE 1 bal volley at chair umpire Pascal Maria after the sev- enth game of the last set when he was angered by foot-fault calls at one end. "Left nothing in the locker room. That's some- thing I can be proud of," Hewitt, who turns 35 next month, told the crowd. "My whole career, I've given 100 percent." Nobody would argue with that. Before Roger Federer won the first of his record 17 Grand Slam titles, at Wimbledon in 2003, Hewitt had won the 2001 U.S. Open and Wim- bledon in 2002. They were roughly the same age. Hewitt was the young- est man to hold the No. 1-ranking, aged 20 years and 8 months in Novem- ber 2001. He held top spot for a total of 80 weeks. Federer said Hewitt helped revolutionize the sport. "Yeah, possibly," Hewitt replied in a matter-of- fact response when Feder- er's assessment was men- tioned. "I guess guys play- ing from the back of the court obviously started be- lieving once they saw that I was able to do it, especially on all surfaces. "It was really kind of the total changing of how ten- nis was played in a lot of ways, especially on grass." Apart from Andrew Agassi, Hewitt said, "there wasn't a lot of guys that would stay back and play from the back of the court." "A lot of guys learnt or believed that they could do it playing that way. That was probably my biggest thing," he said. "Obviously the other guys came in, and Roger and that took it to a totally new level." The so-called Big Four — Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray — have become dominant, while Hewitt has struggled with hip and foot injuries, and has increasingly reduced his workload to the point where the Grand Slam tournaments and the ma- jors were his only real fo- cus. Murray, who has won two majors, the Davis Cup and reached four finals at the Australian Open, said he learned a lot about ten- nis by watching Hewitt After his 6-0, 6-4, 6-1 second-round win over Sam Groth on Thursday ex- tended his unbeaten streak against Australians to 17, Murray took time to pay tribute to Hewitt, who was scheduled to play the next match on Rod Laver Arena. "He was someone I loved watching growing up. His attitude toward compe- tition — I loved," Mur- ray said. "He fought, well, fights extremely hard to this day. He still has the same passion to win. "He was an idol for me — I actually named one of my dogs after him because he was someone that I loved growing up." In other matches, 2014 champion Stan Wawrinka had a 6-2, 6-3, 6-4 win over 37-year-old qualifier Radek Stepanek, joining No. 10 John Isner, No. 13 Milos Raonic and No. 16 Bernard Tomic in the next round. Tennis FROM PAGE 1 The reserves will be voted by the head coaches in each conference and be announced next Thursday. Bryant, who is retiring after the season, will finish one behind Kareem Abdul- Jabbar for most All-Star selections. He is a four- time All-Star Game MVP and the career leader with 280 points in the game — though James is just two points behind. He was atop the voting from the start, but Leonard had to come from behind and finish 14,000 votes ahead of Dallas center Zaza Pachulia for the final West frontcourt spot. Leonard joins Jordan and Hakeem Olajuwon as the only play- ers to be selected an All- Star, NBA Finals MVP and NBA Defensive Player of the Year. Lowry surged past Wade last year and this time his late charge put him along- side Wade to give the Rap- tors a starter in the first All-Star Game held out- side the U.S. "It is an honor to be voted as a starter for the All-Star Game, especially for one in my home arena," Lowry said in a statement. "I am thankful to all the great Raptors fans across Canada and throughout the NBA." Curry's father, Del, fin- ished his career in To- ronto, and the league's leading scorer will make his third straight All-Star start there. "It's going to be a fun ex- perience for both sides of my family," Stephen Curry said in a video posted by the Warriors. "I lived there for three years, my wife is from there, she has a lot of family that still is up there that's going to be able to celebrate with us. So I'm going to enjoy it and look forward to it." James led East players with 1.1 million votes and is an All-Star for the 12th time in 13 seasons. APBasketballWriter Tim Reynolds in Miami contributed to this report.
