Staffreport @redbluffnewsonTwitter LOS MOLINOS The Tehama County Farm Bureau will be hold- ing its annual meeting tonight at the Los Molinos Veterans Memo- rial Hall, 7980 Sherwood Blvd. The social hour will start at 5:30 p.m. with dinner to follow at 6:30 p.m. The organization will be award- ing Member of the Year, Friend of the Farm Bureau, Media Person of the Year and Insurance Agent of the Year at the event, which is the 98th annual meeting of members. Honorees last year included Friend of the Farm Bureau Dutch Bros. Coffee; Media Person of the Year to Chip Thompson, editor of the Daily News; Insurance Agent of the Year to Andy Houghton, of Andy Houghton Insurance and Member of the Year to Julie Kel- ley, of Sierra Pacific. Guest speakers scheduled in- clude three students from the California State University, Chico Farm, who will be talking about their specific animal unit and the experience they have been getting while pursuing their education. TEHAMA COUNTY FarmBureau's 98th annual meeting tonight By Heather Hoelscher hhoelscher@redbluffdailynews.com @DN_Heather on Twitter CORNING The City Council met Tuesday to schedule a spe- cial meeting to discuss the city's budget and the Ad Hoc Commit- tee recommendations for money- saving measures to be held at 6 p.m. Jan. 18, at the Corning Union High School cafeteria. The General Fund Ad Hoc Committee report, discussed at the Dec. 8, 2015 council meet- ing, showed the recommenda- tions and alternatives that could accomplish general fund savings. The council decided not to take an action on the matter to have time to further discuss the op- tions available. With the infor- mation from the committee and a recent mid-year general fund update, the severity of the situa- tion is clearer. If the budget continues in this direction it will not be sustain- able, said Kristina Miller, city manager. Miller updated the council and the public in regards to how the city is fairing financially in terms of the general fund revenue for CORNING Special meeting set to discuss budget By Julie Zeeb jzeeb@redbluffdailynews.com @DN_Zeeb on Twitter LOS MOLINOS A resident called the Daily News just before 5 p.m. Wednesday to report a tornado touched down in Los Molinos in the area of Taft and Butler streets. The woman said that a mobile home on Taft Street had lost an awning and a few shingles and a pine tree had fallen down in the area of Butler Street and Willow Branch Lane. Another Tehama County woman posted to Facebook that her tree had fallen and barely missed hitting her old bedroom. Just before 3 p.m. Wednes- day, Tehama County residents reported receiving a tornado warning on alert systems on their phones and scanner reports from local law enforcement indicated a tornado warning was issued. The National Weather Service listed that the warning was in ef- fect in the area of State Route 99E, north of Los Molinos, from 2:45 to 3:15 p.m. Reports were received of warnings covering northeast- ern Tehama County, Manton and southeastern Shasta County. Half-inch sized hail in the Cot- tonwood area was reported by the National Weather Service. Tehama County received a bit of rain with most of the county re- ceiving 0.15 of an inch of rain be- tween noon and 6 p.m. Wednes- day. The heaviest rainfall was in the Mineral area with 0.47 of an inch received. Nearby Lassen Lodge received 0.33 and Battle Ridge received 0.20. Caltrans District 2 reported at 4:15 p.m. a partial closure of State Route 36E at the Tehama and Plumas county line due to a big rig accident. Weather fore- casts on the National Weather Service website show rainfall is expected off and on for at least the next seven days. TORNADO TornadotouchesdowninLosMolinos By Julie Zeeb jzeeb@redbluffdailynews.com @DN_Zeeb on Twitter RED BLUFF The Special Ro- deo, a rodeo event that pairs local contestants in menotor- ing special needs students from around the north valley to teach the sport of rodeo, is coming to town Saturday. The event, a part of the In- terdistrict Rodeo for the Califor- nia High School Rodeo, starts at noon Saturday in the Pauline Davis Pavillion at the Tehama District Fairground. The Inter- district High School Rodeo will be held Friday through Sunday, Jan. 15-17. High school contestants will guide special needs participants through various rodeo activities such as barrel racing and pole bending on stick horses, dummy roping, goat undecorating and even a chance to sit upon giant rocking horses and bulls set up to represent bucking horses and bulls, said event coordina- tor Zandee Meadows. "It's been fun working the Special Rodeo," Meadows said. "My kids have grown up with it, but to see those who have not been exposed to it participate, it's pretty awesome." Meadows has coordinated the event for about four years, but it has been taking place for at least 15 to 20 years, she said. The 2015 event drew between 15 and 20 participants. There will be some 300 high school rodeo participants at- tending to assist in the week- end's event.
