Open Studio Tehama County is a self guided tour featuring 12 artists in 11 locations from south Red Bluff to Cottonwood, according to the brochure for the event. The purpose is to offer the public the unique opportunity to visit actual studios of local art- ists, to see their working processes, equipment and tools, ask questions and learn of the many talented people in the county. For the artists the tour is an opportunity to share their passions and perhaps sell their work. For many their art is their livelihood. OPEN STUDIO Artistswelcome art enthusiasts with free tours By Julie Zeeb jzeeb@redbluffdailynews.com @DN_Zeeb on Twitter CORNING A 36-year-old Corning man was ar- rested Thursday morning after allegedly trying to break into a residence and then leading offi- cers on a chase. Jeffrey Dale Newton was arrested and booked into Tehama County Jail on the felony charges of attempted burglary and criminal threats. Tehama County Sheriff's deputies and Corn- ing Police officers were dispatched to the 23300 block of Blackburn Avenue about 6:45 a.m. for re- port of a man yelling at another man and trying to break into a residence. Corning Police logs show a report that New- ton, armed with a knife, was threatening the other man and trying to push in the back door. The log indicates that Newton attempted to break into a vehicle following the failed attempt to break into the residence before fleeing the area on foot. Newton, who was wearing all black clothing, was seen running northeast in a field near a wal- nut storage area before heading north. He was later seen in the 23400 block of Neva Avenue. A person matching the suspect description was seen entering a residence in the 4800 block of Marguerite Avenue. The California Highway Patrol helicopter was requested and had been sent, but was canceled prior to arrival after Newton was located at the Margurite residence and detained, according to Tehama County Sheriff's Department. Newton also was booked for a flash incarcer- ation. Bail was $65,000. CRIME Officers chaseman afteralleged break-in By Julie Zeeb jzeeb@redbluffdailynews.com @DN_Zeeb on Twitter RED BLUFF The Tehama County Planning Commis- sion voted to continue a pub- lic hearing for a rezone that would affect mobile homes in Rancho Tehama and some commercial property in Red Bluff if adopted. The hearing will continue Dec. 17 during the Planning Commission meeting, which starts at 9 a.m. A workshop regarding the rezoning was held Thursday with potential for action, but the hearing was tabled based uponcommissionerconcerns over whether or not addi- tionalnoticewouldbeneeded for proposed changes. Residents had contacted the planning department re- garding concerns over mo- bile homes in Rancho Te- hama. A separate group from the Paskenta and Lu- ther Road area had concerns about what they say was a mistake in zoning. The proposed re-zone is a part of bringing zoning into conformity with the land-use designations from the Te- hama County General Plan adopted in 2009. A request wasmadetoremoveamobile home overlay in Rancho Te- hama that had been added. Doing so would result in re- verting to previous rules, which state that all mobile homes going in must be 10 years old or newer, said Plan- ning Director Sean Moore. "The updated plan ad- opted in 2009 took about 10 years and almost $1 mil- lion," Moore said. "Part of that process is to re-desig- nate the land use, which is a separate issue from the zon- ing. The next step is to re- zone the properties changed to match the land use." The rezoning would be done in multiple phases with the part discussed Thurs- day being phase two. It af- fects 66,000 acres made up of more than 4,000 parcels. The first phase, which cov- ered agricultural zones, took place in 2011. PLANNING Rezone considered for Rancho Tehama mobile homes PHOTOSBYHEATHERHOELSCHER—DAILYNEWS The Strikes for Strays fundraiser, to help in the adoption of local animals, was held Friday at Lariat Bowl with the first few groups starting to bowl. By Heather Hoelscher hhoelscher@redbluffdailynews. com @DN_Heather on Twitter RED BLUFF The 2nd an- nual Strikes for Strays end of year fundraiser was held Friday at Lariat Bowl, put on by Providing Essentials of the Tehama Shelter, or PETS. All the money raised from the event will go to PETS in support of animal adoption, medical and transportation needs, spay and neuter fees and other shelter needs. A raffle with donated items from Rolling Hills Ca- sino, Sierra Nevada Brewery, the Gold Exchange, Disney- land and was available for guests. Prizes included Dis- neyland park hopper tickets and all day passes, tool sets, a three-pot hot plate and other items, all donated. Last year PETS raised more than $2,000 from the Strikes for Strays event and Vice President Ronnie Casey said she hoped to pass that this year. The goal is to double the earnings so that PETS can achieve the main goal of continuing to help the an- imals. "It was a joint decision to get this started," Casey said. "We were looking for a fun, family oriented event that the community could really enjoy." The organization will hold a Home For the Hol- idays event, during which the shelter and volunteers will have free and dis- counted animals available for adoption. The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon and 1-4:30 p.m. Dec. 17-19 at the Tehama County Animal Care Center, 1830 Walnut St. in Red Bluff. Money raised from Strikes for Strays will go toward getting all animals ready to be adopted. "We hope to have an empty shelter by the time the event is over," Casey said. "Last year we had more than 50 animals ad- opted." For more information on PETS, visit www.petste- hama.org.
