MissouriAlpha • 2 • TheSigEpTigerHeart W hen Denny Bond '69 joined Missouri Alpha, he didn't know at the time that he would develop a lifelong support system and powerful friendships with individuals whom he is proud to call his brothers. "Being a member of Missouri Alpha provided me with countless opportunities to excel in leadership, athletics, and campus activities. The men of Sigma Phi Epsilon brought out the best in me, and encouraged me to be successful in every aspect of my life. I could not be more thankful," he says. Denny furthered that success by obtaining a bachelor's degree in math and education, a master's in secondary school education, and an Army military sciences degree. Alumni such as John Hartman '61 provided a model for Denny to develop the discipline he needed to pursue future professional and personal interests. As an undergraduate, Denny demonstrated tremendous leadership, serving as recruitment chairman for three years, and was a driving force in the substantial growth in the chapter's membership. "What sets Missouri Alpha apart from other chapters is the unique and powerful friendships that the chapter provides members during their college years, and this unmatched camaraderie remains strong even years down the road. Brotherhood is not only for four years, it is for life." As an alumnus, Denny continues to demonstrate incredible involvement with Sigma Phi Epsilon. Having served as a Past Grand President, Denny was able to connect with brothers nationwide, attend numerous Conclave conferences (he was even recognized at this year's conference for attending 15 Conclaves!), serve as recruitment chairman for the National organization, and was elected by the undergraduate committee to serve on the National Board of Directors. Denny says he's proud to have been the third Missouri Alpha to serve as Grand President and says, "We need a fourth!" Denny is looking forward to becoming more involved with the Missouri Alpha Alumni Association, and highly encourages all brothers to reconnect with the chapter. Denny has been a faithful volunteer to the University of Missouri Alumni Association as well. This year he was presented with the University of Missouri's Legacy Award for his involvement as an alumnus for the last 40 years. Missouri Alpha is, undoubtedly, very proud of Denny and this special achievement. Denny stays connected with his Missouri Alpha brothers either by phone, e-mail, or Facebook. He says he enjoyed the '60s class reunion in Sarasota, Florida, last February and is excited about the second annual reunion planned for Feb. 4-7, 2016. Denny wants to encourage the brothers of the '60s to attend. Further details will be sent the 1st of November. If interested, please contact Jim Walker '71, Jim Heckel, Ron Schmalz '68, Terry Schaeffer '69, or John Morris '68. "Don't miss out—it's going to be a blast!" Denny has completed an impressive 10 marathons and looks forward to participating in future races. His son, Dennis W. Bond Jr. '93, is an alumnus of Mizzou and also a Missouri Alpha member. His daughter, Rebecca, is an alumna of Missouri and a Gamma Phi Beta. His granddaughter, Morgan, is a sophomore at the University of Missouri and also a Gamma Phi Beta member. The Bond family's deep-rooted connections with the University can be seen on their brick in Traditions Plaza, which has four generations of the Bond family inscribed.
