Brett: To me, it shows how good the chapter is and that its lasted that way for so long. It means that our family has a connection that runs from generation to generation, from father to son, from cousin to cousin, and that many of us know what it was like to live in the house during college. Lucas: There is a comfort level there that may not have been there otherwise. Knowing so many family members had already lived there, it felt so much more like home, even before I moved in. Q: How, if at all, did being in FarmHouse impact your career path or future career path? Bob: When I started college I thought I wanted to go into medicine, but I wasn't sure if I could get to that point. I had really great role models while I was in the chapter, and it helped me to know what to do to get into medical school and in studying. Ryan: FarmHouse, and my leadership positions within the chapter, have given me so much experience in leadership, communications, relationships, management, and professionalism. In addition, FarmHouse has given me numerous networking opportunities and given me many connections in several different fields that will help me in the future. A strong reputation can make a huge difference in the recruitment process, and for Curtis Knobbe '94, FarmHouse's notoriety of having successful members of strong character influenced his decision to join the Fraternity. He found the members of Nebraska Chapter not only to be quality men, but fun to be around, giving him a perfect balance to grow as an undergraduate. "FarmHouse had a great reputation of producing campus leaders," Curtis said, "Two of the four years I was in the chapter, a FarmHouse man was elected student body president—Andrew Loudon '92 and Eric Marintzer '94." Curtis found motivation in pursuing his academics and leadership roles by being surrounded by men in active leadership roles both on campus and in the chapter. "FarmHouse, due to its high-quality members, created good peer pressure for me, as I saw guys driven to be the best in their chosen fields," Curtis said, "We all aimed high and worked hard." He served as both social chairman and recruitment chairman as an undergraduate, allowing him the opportunity to meet people from all over the state of Nebraska. "There is no question that my four years in FarmHouse contributed to the person I am today," Curtis said. In the four years Curtis was an undergraduate member, he made a wealth of memories he will never forget. He remembers pledge canoe trips, elections, Monday night meetings, basketball games in the parking lot, and playing cards. Though those days are in the past, his FarmHouse brothers continue to be by his side. "My pledge class stays in touch in a unique way," Curtis said, "We all play in the same fantasy football league together each year. It started the year after we graduated and is on-going." Curtis and his wife, Iva, live in Houston, Texas, with their daughter, Sophia, and son, Andrew. He works as a commodity trader for Vitol Inc., focusing on physical ethanol marketing and corn derivative trading. Curtis and his family enjoy spending time together through sports, boating, hiking, and traveling. He encourages alumni to "look back and consider the man you were when arriving at FarmHouse, and then compare the man you were when leaving. We all have busy lives, but there is a common bond we all share." You can contact Curtis at cdk@vitol.com.
