CUMBERLAND Subcontractors Invited to Jail Project Information Session on March 29 Area subcontractors and suppliers will have a chance to learn more about Cumberland County's $15 million Detention Center expansion project on March 29 during a 6 p.m. information session at the Headquarters Library at 300 Maiden Lane in downtown Fayetteville. Balfour Beatty-Metcon, BJL Construction Company and Cumberland County will host the meeting and invite local Minority and Women Business Enterprise companies and other subcontractors to attend and learn how they can become a part of the project. The agenda will cover the project schedule, contracting opportunities and introductions to the construction managers. Companies are asked to RSVP no later than March 22 to Wilson A. Lacy, president of BJL Construction Co., at wilsonl@bjlconstruction.com or 910-988-1707. Balfour Beatty-Metcon is the construction manager at risk for the Detention Center project, which is designed to add 316 beds to the current jail on Gillespie Street. Bids are expected to go out in April, with construction starting in May. The estimated completion date is June 2013. Library Celebrates the Blues March 24 The whole family is invited to celebrate the blues with the local band Blues Enigma during 4th Friday activities at 7 p.m. on March 23 at Headquarters Library, 300 Maiden Lane in downtown Fayetteville. Refreshments are provided for this program, which is underwritten by SYSTEL. Rabies Vaccination Clinics Set Rabies vaccination clinics for dogs and cats will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday throughout April at different locations each day. The cost is $10 per animal. State law requires "The owner of every dog and cat over four months of age shall have the animal vaccinated against rabies." In Cumberland County, the owners of dog and cats which have not been vaccinated in accordance with this law are subject to a civil penalty of $100. To remain properly immunized, a dog or cat must receive two rabies vaccinations one year apart, then one vaccination every three years thereafter. Please keep your dog on a leash. Keep your cats in separate carriers or boxes or leave them in your car. Owners may be held responsible for their pets and for any damage they cause. Please bring cash. Checks will not be accepted.
