In preparation for the new academic year, our summer updates included the normal schedule of painting, kitchen cleaning and maintenance, carpet and floor cleaning, gutter cleaning, and a landscaping refresh. In addition to these routine tasks, we are constantly working to maintain the excellent living conditions that make Alpha Chi Omega one of the best facilities on campus. Additional summer projects included: • Replacing of boiler room pipes • Repairing and regrouting tile in second and third floor bathrooms • Replacing shelving for bathroom buckets in second and third floor bathrooms • Researching to improve the signage at the road for better visibility and identification of the Alpha Chi Omega brand for service and safety vehicles • Replacing a memorial tree, which did not survive the extreme 2014 winter • Purchasing a stackable washer/dryer unit for use by the house director and the housekeeping staff to free up the machines used by collegiate women • Updating the house director's suite, including the closet and bathroom • Replacing the blinds in the sleeping dorms to provide better insulation and coverage • Reinforcing the branch that holds our beloved swing in the front yard All this took place within the brief time before the collegiates arrived in early August for fall recruitment, which began before the start of the semester and ended with bids extended over Labor Day weekend. There was such a flurry of activity as sisters reconnected, shared their summer adventures, and prepared to recruit and welcome the new members of Alpha Beta. If you'd like to get a glimpse into the new world of recruitment, please visit the Alpha Beta Facebook page or our website, which are listed on the last page of this newsletter. You will be amazed by the video the women produced for recruitment—it's truly a work of art! The Home Corporation board prides itself on being fiscally responsible and keeping costs to a minimum by repurposing and reusing materials whenever possible, as well as maintaining and repairing the chapter house in a timely manner. The formal living room furniture was refreshed when we added the fire suppression system in 2013, which was a much-needed update after 35 years. The collaboration between the chapter and the Home Corporation Board keeps our Alpha Beta home in stunning condition and provides a welcoming home for our collegiate members. The Alpha Beta chapter house will be open during Homecoming on Saturday, November 7. We hope to see you whenever your schedule allows!
