The 2014-15 school year was an extraordinary year of Pike service to the community, with the chapter raising more than $26,000 for charities and giving hundreds of hours in community volunteer service. Pike philanthropy chairman Baylor Morrison '14 says, "Pikes are committed to surpass last year's high mark in the new school year ahead." Already this fall, Pikes are active on the community front with plans to support the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's Fun Run and the Settlement Home's annual charity garage sale. Pike also fully supports the efforts of the Texas Interfraternity Council's designated charities, including blood drives and the "Movember" men's cancer research project. Pike's Zack Wagner '14 (back, second from right) joins other Interfraternity Council representatives in an August event for the Be Positive Foundation's 'Be a Hero' outing with childhood cancer patients. Pike's Ryan Thompson '13 (right) joins with other mentors of U.T.'s University Leadership Network, a student program providing resources to entering freshmen students. Ryan serves as a senior mentor in the honorary campus leadership organization. Pikes gathered in the downtown Houston home of Tucker Graves '78 before the Astros/Orioles game on June 3. Pikes Active in Texas Cowboys and Silver Spurs P ikes continue to be very active in U.T.'s two most prestigious campus service organizations, Texas Cowboys and Silver Spurs. Matt Hoover '12 was recently elected to the Spurs' selection committee, after completing a term as Spur social chairman. Other Pike Spurs are Zach Carrabine '12, Colby Lewis '13, Michael Moroney '13, Will Wakefield '12 and Jake Webb '12. Newly elected fall 2015 Pike Rowels are Ryan Merkley '13 and Dan Smith '13. Pike's Texas Cowboys are Erik Ewertsen '13, Chris Roman '12 and Tyler Weido '12. Congratulations to Pike's fall Cowboy New Man, Nick Sorsby '13. Pike Texas Cowboys Erik Ewertsen '13 and Tyler Weido '12 at the Cowboys Pavilion on campus. Tyler is also Pike president. SUMMER ALUMNI GATHERINGS HELD AROUND THE COUNTRY A number of alumni gatherings were held in Texas and around the country this summer. Houston area alumni gathered at the downtown Houston home of Tucker Graves '78 before the Astros/Orioles game on June 3. John Wallace '78, Lee Zieben '95 and David Zdunkewicz '81 helped with co-hosting duties. Barry Adkins '73, Charlie Beckham '73, Jeff Kuhn '74, Bruce McDonald '82 and Steve Winter '82 were among the 25 alumni who enjoyed meeting the three Pike Houston rush captains, Eric Cruz '14, Kris Kubin '14 and Justin Smith '14. Dallas area alumni met at Dallas Country Club on July 15. Joining the fun were Dr. Henry Ellis '97, Jim Jacks '70, Jeff Hinson '76, Alumni Advisory Board members Preston Huffington '04 and Conner Mowles '07, John Rutherford '77, Mac Tichenor '74 and John Ward '85. State rush co-chairmen J.D. Swancoat '12 and Colby Lewis '12 joined the session along with several rushees and rushee parents. Smaller gatherings were also held this summer in New York City, Newport Beach, Calif., and at the Malibu, Calif., ranch home of Alex Glasscock '82.
