pg. 3 Alpha Theta Delta D uring June and July, a building permit was received from the City of Seattle, finances were put in order, and construction began on August 3. The contractor's goal is to finish construction by the end of June 2016, leaving the rest of the summer to get the new Annex ready for occupancy before the fall term begins. Work at the site began with clearing vines, brush, and other vegetation, followed by excavation for the building's foundation. On September 4, the first concrete was poured. The photos on page 1 show views looking east and northeast displaying the recently poured foundation footings and perimeter of the future Annex exterior walls. The current schedule calls for the building framing with windows to be complete around Christmas time. At that point, the final form of the building will be visible. To me, the true meaning of being a Chi Psi is the continuous pursuit of bringing a little more happiness, strength, and support to those I encounter through the daily routine of life. When people reach out their hand for help, I am responsible for being there. I learned this from my brothers by their example then and now. I choose to support and participate in this project and campaign for two main reasons. The first is brotherhood. I believe that having all of the actives living closer together will strengthen the bond of brotherhood. No longer will there be the Lodge and the separate annex down the street. The second is a dramatically improved financial condition. This is what really drove me to participate both in terms of time and financial commitment. Right now, we pay approximately $115,000 per year to a third-party landlord to rent the existing annex. This is almost 25% of all live-in dues collected. As the current Board Treasurer, even with the additional debt service costs, my belief and projections show that with the new annex, Alpha Theta Delta will be debt free in 10-15 years. Alpha Theta Delta will no longer have to live at the whims of a third-party landlord. We will be able to maintain, repair, and improve our property at the level we have not always been able to in the past. We can lower the live-in dues to be more competitive with other fraternities at the UW. We can contribute more to philanthropies and provide scholarships to men who might otherwise not have been able to pledge due to financial limitations. These are just some of the ways that I believe this project will ultimately benefit Alpha Theta Delta. I am truly grateful to all my brothers who have contributed to date in terms of time and money. I strongly encourage all those who have not to consider supporting this project, which I believe is a once-in-my-lifetime opportunity to directly and meaningfully participate in ensuring the continued success and strength of Alpha Theta Delta for future generations of brothers. It was a wonderful learning experience for everyone involved, and it proved to be a kick start for some great attitudes coming into the new school year. We are extremely excited to announce that we received the Goodbody Trophy, awarded to the most academic Alpha—an award we have not won since 2004! This award came from the hard work and dedication of all of our brothers. Our devoted scholarship and recruitment chairman, Alex Hopkins '17, led this effort. This award is a reflection on our 3.46 cumulative GPA achieved during the spring quarter, the highest our Alpha has achieved since IFC began issuing grade reports. We maintained our record as a Thayer finalist again for the 15th consecutive year, and we are now working Chapter President Tim Lundburg '16 accepts the Goodbody Award at the National Convention in Minneapolis. Alpha Theta Delta was also a Thayer finalist.
