The good news is that the house smoke alarm is connected to the Lawrence Fire Department, which responded to the alarm by arriving at the house ready to tackle a fire. This action proved that the smoke alarm worked as intended. But for every action there is a reaction. The fire unit answering the call was the one that Gorman belonged to. The firemen enjoyed a big laugh at Gorman's expense before returning to their station. Other improvements at the house were less eventful, but still important. Two bathrooms in the new addition were renovated. These updates included a tiled floor, new stalls, and new vanities. "The bathrooms look great," said House Corporation Secretary Liz Hickam Ardell '90. "And every woman I spoke with loves the new bathrooms." During the last academic year, door locks were installed on all study room doors and security cameras were put in place above the front door and in the foyer. In the kitchen, Chef Karl Zensen is making use of a new double-convection oven to prepare dishes and treats for the women. "The new double-convection oven is an incredible machine," said Karl. "The oven it replaced was 25 years old. I am really excited to cook everything in the new one. The Deltas are most likely excited about the desserts in their future." For more energy efficiency and comfort, the House Corporation bought three new air conditioning units for the chapter room and living room. The living room is also the new home for a chandelier over the piano, two end tables, a pair of ceiling fans, and three more lamps. The dining room has youthful modern look thanks to new lighting fixtures. Elsewhere in the house, eight new dressers are in place, five new mattresses were purchased, two new end tables were placed in the social area, and blinds were installed in the recreation room. "The new décor is still homey, but now bright and fresh —a style that reflects the women in the house," said House Director Carol McKay. It's because of alumnae support that these upgrades were possible, and we thank you. Please stop by the house this fall and see these improvements for yourself. Whether it's for a home football game or you're just passing through, the doors of Theta Omega are always open for our loyal alumnae. T he Theta Omega Chapter of Delta Delta Delta is already off and running this semester, growing in sisterhood, academics, service, and leadership. It gives me great hope and joy that so many of our members are pouring out so much of their time and talent to make our chapter the best it can be. Theta Omega Honored at Greek Awards Last spring, the Theta Omega Chapter brought home some impressive awards from the Greek Awards night. We received Chapter Distinction in academic performance, membership development and education, risk management and legal liability, and community awareness.
