The OGH was conceived by past Grand President Bedford W. Black, and was first awarded at the 1959 Conclave. The gold medallion is conferred only upon those few alumni who, over a lifetime of commitment, provide exceptional service to our fraternity—service of a magnitude that requires dedication, often at great personal sacrifice, and has made a real, measurable difference in the Sigma Phi Epsilon experience. In all our history, out of more than 314,000 brothers, only 155 of them have received this great honor. This excerpt from the actual award narrative sums things up nicely: "We can tally the number of dollars you've given, the years you've served, and the awards you've won. But we'll never be able to quantify the impact you've had on the thousands of brothers that have walked through the red door at San Diego State since you began this journey together in 1967. Your servant leadership is an example of the lifetime commitment of brotherhood for each of these young men. Now and forever, your names will be synonymous with the successes of your beloved California Delta Chapter." Thank you, Bob and Skip, for showing us all the way to celebrate our lifetime of brotherhood in SigEp and CA Delta. CA Delta Launches New Trovaten Dahlkamp Scholarship for Deserving Undergraduates Your Help Is Needed to Make This Fund a Reality T he Alumni and Volunteer Corporation (AVC) of CA Delta will soon launch a new fundraising campaign in honor of Order of the Golden Heart recipients Bob Trovaten '67 and Skip Dahlkamp '67. Bob and Skip have served almost a combined 100 years of continuous service to Sigma Phi Epsilon and our local CA Delta Chapter. They received their awards at the 2015 Grand Chapter Conclave last August in Nashville, Tennessee. Your Gifts Will Provide Leadership Opportunities The scholarship fund is needed to support the educational and leadership training purposes of SigEp and CA Delta. When one of our undergraduate brothers comes back from a SigEp training experience, he consistently shows stronger leadership skills and commitment to serve his chapter and his community. SigEp offers one of the best undergraduate fraternity training curriculums in the country and features such outstanding programs as the Grand Chapter Conclave, the Tragos Quest to Greece, the Ruck Leadership Academy, the Carlson Leadership Academy, and EDGE. Your AVC wants to provide funds to worthy local members so that many more can attend these potentially life-changing events. Your Gifts Will Afford Scholarships for New Members Each year, the chapter conducts a new member recruitment cycle that includes offering cash scholarships to the most deserving new member candidates. It is called the Balanced Man Scholarship. We want to increase the number and amount of cash awards and to upgrade the quality of the banquet at which the awards are given. Your Gifts Will Reward Academic Achievement SigEp and the AVC value academic performance and we already conduct a GPA incentive/reward program. Twice each year, we serve a steak dinner to all local chapter men who earn a semester GPA of 3.5 or better. We want to expand our academic achievement rewards and include a new element that rewards strong academic improvement. All of these things take money. Our plan is to launch a campaign that builds a substantial body of funds in the SigEp Educational Foundation from which we can make annual withdrawals to fund the items listed above. Watch for a detailed campaign prospectus and giving information in future communication from your CA Delta AVC. Present to witness and celebrate Bob and Skip's award are (from left to right) Rob O'Keefe '12, Ron Smith '69, Brian Wilkinson '17, Harrison Baum '17, Alex Miller '16, Troy Owens '18, Austin Dean '17 and Patrick Gallagher '14.
