THE TOMAHAWK Theta Chi at ISU 5 T he new member education program has undergone a major change this semester, shifting the focus to developing a strong bond between the new members. We have struggled with retention in the past, and I believe a reason for that was cliques that formed amongst the new members. New activities in the program include competitive games, motivational videos, and S.M.A.R.T. goals. The new members' big brothers and I will encourage them throughout the semester to achieve their goals. I have also added a camping trip, structured to provide opportunities to really get to know everyone on a personal level. Every new member will also be assigned a position within the house where they have an interest or I feel their strengths are a fit. This will allow new members a chance to become integrated in the chapter and develop a bond with the brother currently holding the position. I have continued to work with the Theta Chi Conversations installed last year and feel that it has been vastly improved. IFC President Corey Anderson will speak to the new members and Alumni Advisor Jon Fleming '75 shared his advice on how to achieve in college. We have a strong group of young men who will be able to lead Theta Chi into the Golden Era of our great chapter. Zach Stuart '17 Marshal PLEDGE EDUCATION REPORT Get to Know Alpha Mu's Recruitment Chairmen C oming off an incredibly successful summer recruitment, we take a moment to say thank you and get to know our summer recruitment chairmen, Sean Siberski '15 and Brennan Goodman '17. Sean, from Ames, Iowa, will graduate in December with a degree in biological chemistry. He will be applying to medical schools in the coming year. Outside of QC, Sean is the president of Alpha Phi Omega, a co-ed service fraternity on campus. He has also served as pledge educator and works with the Stupka Symposium. Brennan, from Marshalltown, Iowa, will graduate in 2017 with a degree in economics. He has hopes of finding a job involving business or statistical analytics. Brennan is vice president of service for Alpha Phi Omega, vice president of health and safety at Alpha Mu, and formerly helping hand chairman and house manager. "Sean and I traveled the countryside like a married couple," said Brennan. "Summer recruitment can test brotherhood at times, but in the end it develops into a deeper appreciation and respect for the other recruiter." The two say that the most rewarding part of the summer was not the time spent recruiting, but seeing the recruits come together and interact for the first time during work week. While the new members' only connection is the fraternity and Iowa State when they first meet, as the weeks have passed, their connections have grown and the foundation for a lifetime of brotherhood has been established. Recruitment Recommendations D o you know of a young man planning to attend Iowa State next fall who would be a good addition to Theta Chi's membership?
