THE TOMAHAWK T his summer, our recruitment efforts were led by Sean Siberski '15 and Brennan Goodman '17. Sean and Brennan worked diligently, traveling around Iowa and hosting three events. Their work paid off, signing 16 new members. Continued efforts at the beginning of the semester yielded five new members, putting the class at 21. Our total membership is now 55, the highest it has been in many years. During the fall, recruitment is a continued point of emphasis, with Sam Wanzenried '15 leading the efforts. Several new members and current members remain involved in the recruitment process. We have had many potential new members over for dinner and held several recruitment events. We had success at Fall Fraternity Rush and ClubFest, conversing with interested students. For the spring, we will change up our recruitment focus. In the past, we have focused on recruiting current Iowa State students for the first half of the semester, then changing emphasis to recruiting high school seniors. This year, we will focus on recruiting high school seniors at the beginning of the spring to increase our success over the summer. Our goal for the semester is to sign five additional new members. As we approach the spring, we will set new goals to continue growing the chapter. We rely on referrals of high school seniors to build a list of interested students. If you know any high school seniors planning to attend Iowa State, please send their contact information to our recruitment chairman. T he Alpha Mu Chapter is experiencing some of the brightest growth and improvement that it has seen in decades. After an incredible effort by our summer recruitment chairmen, I am proud to announce that we have the largest pledge class in recent memory. More importantly, these men are quality, hard- working gentlemen with bright futures, both in Theta Chi and beyond. The executive board and I have set out to create a plan for the chapter that will profoundly improve our organization. We have established three key tenets in our approach to the Alpha Mu Chapter this semester: scholarship, member education, and brotherhood. SCHOLARSHIP Our current librarian and scholarship chairman, Neal Crooks '16, set out to revamp our stagnating scholarship program, implementing changes to our standards that will impact our upward trajectory for years to come. Similarly, the executive board set out to create a cultural shift in our chapter. With a renewed focus on academics and professionalism, we instilled in our freshmen and members the importance of acquiring excellent grades and professional skills. MEMBER EDUCATION Zach Stuart '17 has been instrumental as marshal, attacking the challenge of molding our pledge class into fine, upstanding men. He revamped the program to ensure that these new members receive the full benefits of going through our member education program by focusing on professionalism, grades, brotherhood, and involvement. I am ecstatic to see the progress he is making with our up-and-coming new members. BROTHERHOOD Finally, we are experiencing a tremendous push toward a greater, more supportive brotherhood. William Marks '18, William Schmeda '18, and Nick Lafrenz '17 shared their experiences from the summer's Initiative Academy, treating us to an insight into the great experience that the academy provides for our brothers. Vice President of Health and Safety Brennan Goodman '17 has successfully introduced programming into our chapter that has fostered a greater sense of caring toward one another. From mental and physical health to an emphasis on our ritual and bonds, Brennan has changed us from a group of men to a true brotherhood. With these fundamental changes, and many others, I see no end in sight to the chapter's momentum. Expect great things from us, and I promise we will not disappoint.
