Anchored In page 2 "I f money were no object and you knew you could not fail, what would you like to do with your life?" This is the question Valentia Webb Kluge '78 asked herself, and one that led her to turn her passion into a career. Val is the owner of Kansas Equine Massage, where she specializes in educating others about the importance and benefits of equine massage. In 1998, Val retired from her career in sales to pursue her desire to work with horses. She became Kansas certified in massage therapy in September, 2001. When our country was reeling from the after effects of 9/11, many felt vulnerable and were hurting spiritually and emotionally. Massage was a way for her to give back. Within two months, Val went back to school again, this time in Colorado at Equitouch Systems Equine Massage School. "My passion is horses and helping my clients understand how massage therapy can strengthen their bond with their horse. I love to empower others to build upon that relationship. While human clients remain my everyday foundation, it is the horses and riders sharing their small successes after our sessions that rocks my world." Val feels fortunate and grateful to have shared her Delta Gamma experience with her twin sister, Victoria Webb Page '78. "When we reminisce, we always find ourselves laughing at some of the things we did back then," she shares. "Many people say you spend four years of your life making memories, and the rest of your life reliving them. I couldn't agree more." The memories of her undergraduate years that stick out are winning Rock Chalk Revue, the annual Pinafore Party, and those times spent with her pledge class. "Our pledge class was really special. We truly cared about and supported each other. There wasn't any drama; instead, we were there for each other through thick and thin. It was wonderful to find other girls who mean as much to me as my twin does." Val believes that her Delta Gamma experience gave her important lessons and values that she carries with her to this day. "So often, kids today don't understand the importance of good character and integrity. I do believe that Delta Gamma helps young women learn those values and makes a difference in their lives." Val and her husband, Rick, Delta Upsilon '81, whom she met through her Delta Gamma adventures, live in Wichita, Kan. They have two daughters, Kristen and Kayde, who have both been actively involved in college sports. Val and Rick consider their home to be a true Jayhawk house. "The world stops when a KU basketball game is on." Rick has collected 16 signed KU basketballs over the years. You can connect with Val by e-mailing her at valkluge@gmail.com. Following Your Passion Valentia Webb Kluge '78 and Equine Massage Val with her horse, JJ. M any people search their whole lives for their calling, and some never find it. This was not the case for Victoria Webb Page '78. "I want to utilize the talents God has given me and dedicate myself to helping others feel good about themselves." After a career in sales and marketing, Vicky is utilizing her talents and passion for volleyball to teach young girls how to play. She created an independent, year-round volleyball training program in Tampa, Florida called Legacy Volleyball, LLC. "Volleyball is a really difficult sport to learn so it is the best sport ever for young athletes! Each little success gives girls the self- confidence and self-esteem they need to move on in the world." She began her coaching career as a middle school volleyball coach before moving into coaching club volleyball, then becoming the "2011 USAV Florida Club Director of the Year" for a local volleyball club. "Volleyball is just the vehicle we use to teach what is really important in life," Vicky shares. While she focuses on training the girls to compete in club volleyball programs, the skills and lessons she really teaches are lessons for life. "Many of the values that were important in Delta Gamma are what I teach my girls: unconditional love, loyalty, teamwork, and learning to have faith in yourself." Vicky has a great sense of pride for the work her girls accomplish and the skills they take away. "I love seeing my girls have their 'lightbulb moment,' where the lessons and skills they've been working on fall into place." Much of what Vicky emphasizes with her girls comes from her experiences in Delta Gamma with her twin sister, Valentia Webb Kluge '78. "Going to KU and sharing our Delta Gamma experience was a dream come true for Val and I." As they went through Rush, Vicky and Val didn't share their thoughts on the chapters until the last night of recruitment. "We both said Delta Gamma at the same time! There was just a goodness about the energy in the chapter and the personalities of the women there." Vicky and Val love to reminisce about their Delta Gamma experiences. One of their favorite memories is that of the year Delta Gamma and Alpha Kappa Lambda won Rock Chalk Revue. "It was the first time we had ever made it into Rock Chalk Revue and to top it off, we won! The interesting thing is that our lead actress and actor, Juliette Beeler Bradley '78 and Scott Bradley met while doing the skit and they actually got married. It was so romantic for all of us!" When she is not coaching volleyball, Vicky is spending her time catching up with Delta Gamma alumnae in the Tampa, Florida area. "It is fun to meet so many Delta Gammas from all over the country and know that we share similar experiences." Vicky and her husband, David, who have been married 30 years, have three children: Corey, Connor, and Baylee. All of their children are actively involved in sports. After a recent visit to Lawrence, Baylee is hoping to attend KU next year and join the KU Rowing team. You can connect with Vicky at coachvickypage@gmail. com or at www.legacyvolleyball.net.
