Inside... 2 Alumni Spotlight 3 Annual Donors 4 Chapter Eternal SIGMA CHI FRATERNITY AT KANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY Delta Upsilon Establishes Plan for Chapter Improvement Alumni Involvement Key to Sigma Chi's Success I t's been a time of reflection and improvement at Delta Upsilon Chapter. We've listened to your feedback, taken a hard look at our shortcomings, and asked ourselves what we can do better as a chapter. We realize that our organization can perform at a higher level according to the standards of Sigma Chi. For instance, academically we have been in the third, or bottom, quartile for several semesters; and we haven't solicited and recruited legacies and alumni referrals like we should. These are two areas of improvement that we are focusing on bettering immediately. This is not to say that there have not been successes or areas in which we pride ourselves. The chapter has done well in terms of growth with consecutive recruitment classes over 20 men and an initiation rate over 90%. The active members are also philanthropically focused. Last year, they raised more than $10,000 for the Huntsman Cancer Foundation and donated over 500 food items to the Manhattan Breadbasket. Additionally, the current executive board is strong and committed to continued improvement. Perhaps most importantly, those alumni who have interaction with the young men walk away encouraged about Delta Upsilon. We also have a plan at the alumni board level to help return Sigma Chi to its familiar luster. Our most pressing issue is our physical facility. Today's students have high expectations of collegiate housing, and so do their parents. They want amenities such as advanced technology, suite- style living, and up-to-date bathrooms. Currently, the Sigma Chi house is not competitive with university dorms or other fraternity houses. Should this housing issue not be addressed in the near future, Sigma Chi will lose high- caliber recruits—and members—to nicer housing options. As of today, we're assessing what improvements need to be made to the chapter house, and hope to share more details with you in the near future. So, what can you, our alumni, do to help better Delta Upsilon Chapter? The answer is, we must give more support to the undergraduates. Alumni leadership and support is a hallmark of Sigma Chi—both locally and nationally, and the house corporation board is developing a plan right now to increase alumni engagement. We'll need your help to continue the positive trend the undergraduates have begun. If you're interested in further details, or want to know ways in which you specifically can help, feel free to contact me. Onward and upward!
