Big Red Island NEWS 5 A History of Tradition and Excellence Chuck Hensley '67 Reminisces P eople often have a place that they call their home away from home, and for Chuck Hensley '67, that place is Beta Theta Pi. "The most important thing I gained from pledging Beta was getting to know young men with totally different talents than mine, such as dancing and singing, playing golf, writing song lyrics, playing guitar, painting, and those who valued academics." During his undergraduate career in Gamma Lambda, Chuck valued the leadership experience he gained through positions such as recruitment chairman, social chairman, and sports chairman. Chuck credits many of the critical life skills and lessons that prepared him for life after college to his days in Gamma Lambda. He says, "The success of Gamma Lambda runs deep. The history and tradition will always be present in the young men who represent the chapter." As an alumnus, Chuck stays connected with Gamma Lambda brothers, Bill Teigen '64, Terry Kern '66, Wilson Williams '66, Stuart Reeves '61, Jack Kinzie '70, and Steve Jorns '71. "There is a special bond between us all, even if we haven't communicated in years," he says. After a fulfilling 47-year career in the investment arena in Dallas, Texas, Chuck retired as a managing director for Merrill Lynch capital markets. He was recently awarded a spot in the Spears School of Business Hall of Fame. "I consider that a wonderful recognition and a nice ending to my work career," he says. Chuck and his wife, Joannie, who is also an OSU graduate, live in Dallas and spend a lot of time at their ranch in northern Texas where they enjoy entertaining friends, fishing, and bird watching. They have two grown children: Hunter (35) and Ramsay (32), and a grandson, Joshua (2). You can contact Chuck at chensley@ williams-financial.com. Welcome, neW membeRs Luke Bailey '19 • Tulsa, Okla.
