Big Red Island NEWS 2 DISTINGUISHING OURSELVES FROM ALL OTHERS Undergraduates Awarded for Phenomenal Achievements L ast spring, the Gamma Lambda Chapter of Beta Theta Pi wrapped up another successful semester. We placed second in grades with a 3.39 GPA, with the highest number of active members on campus. This GPA earned us national recognition when we took home the Virginia Tech award for academic excellence. Our grades beat the Beta national average of a 3.19 and the OSU all-men's average of a 2.80. Last spring, our chapter paired with the women of Chi Omega to compete in the annual Spring Sing competition. Their hard work and determination paid off when we were awarded first place overall. We are extremely proud of our men and their continued excellence in shows. In addition to the awards listed above, our chapter was also awarded first place in IFC grades, all-Greek intramurals, and the Shelby L. Molter song competition at the Beta Convention. As the chapter grows and develops, we seek to develop our members to become better leaders. This year, we had representation at every leadership development course offered by the national office, four in total. Through these programs, we continue to develop Men of Principle. While the spring semester created many lasting memories, the chapter is eagerly looking forward to the future. This fall, we welcomed 35 Men of Principle to our chapter as members of the Alpha Gamma pledge class. Recruitment chairman Johnny Terry '17 did a phenomenal job of recruit- ing the finest incoming men that OSU could offer. This pledge class is filled with class presidents, state champion athletes, student council repre- sentatives, and men looking to make a positive impact on the community around them. This month, we will once again be participating in America's greatest Homecoming. We have paired with the women of Alpha Xi Delta and will be looking to improve upon our Homecoming performance last year. We hope to see you there. We would not be achieving our level of success if it were not for our outstanding advisory team. Headed by Jody Vivion '09, the chapter now has a total of 14 active advisors who assist with day-to-day operations. Additionally, the national office has designated us a new advisor, Noah Reetz, Minnesota '14, to help with leadership development. Together, our advisory team has helped our members set a foundation for success for years to come. We know that we would not be in the position we are today without the groundwork laid by those before us. If you are in the area, I invite you to come by and see how the chapter is doing.
