"We didn't play a great game," Spartans coach Corey Hein told his team after the game. "It is what it is." Hein praised Shasta and said the Spartans need to focus on playing better in the first half so games don't get away from them. The first quarter was all Shasta with 42 unanswered points and Red Bluff unable to convert a first down. The depleted Spartans, with 8 players out injured including several starting linemen, took the opening kickoff but couldn't move the ball and went 3 and out. On the Wolves' first play from scrimmage, Kellen Mcdonald car- ried the ball 51 yards for the score and the touchdowns stacked up quickly as the Spartans defense struggled to stop the run.
