" The Beacon 2 F or Eric Maddox '91, ATW was truly what encompassed his college career. He always admired the fraternity, since his older brother, Greg Maddox '88, was a member. Despite the fact, Eric was looking to go his own way during recruitment, but quickly found his way back to Delta Kappa. "I majored in ATW," Eric jokes. "I didn't seek anything outside of my fraternity because I didn't need anything else." He admired how driven his fellow brothers were, and was continuously pushed to be the best version of himself, into "a leader among leaders." Following his undergraduate years, he enlisted in the U.S. Army as an airborne ranger. The camaraderie and difficult challenges made him quickly realize that it was a great fit. Later into his military career, Eric became an interrogator and was assigned on a mission to capture Saddam Hussein. Nearly 300 interrogations later, he led the Delta Force Team to the whereabouts of Hussein. Following 10 years in the Army as an interrogator, Eric wrote a book describing his endeavor to capture Hussein, titled Mission: Blacklist #1. He retired from the Defense Intelligence Agency in 2014 and now works as a full-time motivational speaker. He offers leadership and management seminars, alongside consultations on interrogations. He suggests a piece of advice to brothers early in their careers: embrace making mistakes. "If you're going to move up, you're going to make mistakes along the way," Eric guides. "Those are the learning opportunities in life." Keeping in contact with his brothers is of utmost importance, as he is in business ventures with multiple men. "A single pledge class is like an army," Eric says. "I can reach out, and they will help me." When he is not busy working on his MBA and the adaptation of his book into a movie, he enjoys reading business books and jogging. He and his wife, Heather, reside in Sapulpa, Okla., with their five children: Hunter (21), Joseph (14), Eric Marshall (13), Mary (6), and Lola Pearl (3). You can contact Eric at eric@ericmaddox.com or visit his website, ericmaddox.com.
