F all formal recruitment has come and gone for Gamma Iota, but with the help from some very special individuals, it was one of our best yet! Our recruitment advisor, Debbie Fisk, University of North Carolina-Greensboro '89, worked endlessly all summer to make our house beautiful. With a newly renovated study room, guest room, and back hall, we were filled with a new confidence and ready to recruit. Our in-town chapter advisor, Lisa Castanheira, University of North Florida '06, provided us support and wisdom throughout recruitment. We also had a special visit from a traveling consultant, Emma Eriksen, University of Iowa '11, who helped us reach new heights this recruitment. With all efforts combined, we were overjoyed to welcome home our 83 beautiful new members. The new member education process is well underway; we cannot wait to see what beautiful women they will become. Football season has just begun and we could not be happier. For the next few months, our Saturday's are filled with fun, sisterhood, and all-American Gator football. Go Gators! We're also looking forward to our annual philanthropy, G.I. Alpha Chi. We hope to surpass last year's fundraising total by $1,000, as well as continue to spread awareness about domestic violence. All proceeds from this event are donated to local women's shelter, Peaceful Paths. In conjunction with this event, we plan on spreading awareness during October with various events in the chapter and on campus. Last semester, we passed out purple ribbons on campus, which we plan to do again. It was wonderful to see our fellow Gators wearing them in support of our cause. We are thrilled to announce the arrival of our new housemother, Carolyn Ashby. She has brought new energy and ideas to the chapter. We are excited to see what the rest of the semester brings us. One thing Mom Carolyn is particularly excited about this semester is helping us with our annual family weekend. We still have our sights set on some very important goals set by the executive board. We hope to increase our overall GPA as well as outside chapter involvement. Last semester, we had quite a few members involved in organizations such as Dance Marathon, Student Government, and Florida Blue Key. We look forward to our continued involvement as well as broadening our horizons across campus. Finally, our executive board transitions will be taking place at the end of this semester. As our time as a board comes to a close, we plan on leaving the chapter with a steady foundation for a strong future. We cannot wait to share all the successes that await us and look forward to another exciting semester. As always, we greatly appreciate the encouragement and continued dedication from our alumnae! We hope that if you are ever in town that you will stop by to see our beautiful house and all the renovations that were completed this summer! Please plan to join us! What an exciting location to renew our bonds. Come to enjoy informative sessions that will empower us as a Real. Strong. Women. Learn about the initiatives that place ACW at the forefront of women's issues. But most of all, come to celebrate our accomplishments and our commitment to you. You may choose to come just for a day. For example, Saturday begins with an impressive national chapter meeting. Attend several special interest sessions and shop with ACW vendors. That evening, conclude with a reunion dinner. Since you are seated by chapter at this meal, you have a fun way to reunite as Gamma Iotas and share fond memories. Dress in orange and blue! If you know a woman who may be a good candidate for the alumnae initiate program, contact her soon to begin her candidacy. She can be initiated in our ceremony at convention. Initiates from 1966 may be honored with their 50-year pin at a special ceremony. There are many volunteer opportunities as well. Find all registration and volunteer information at www.alphachiomega.org beginning in January. Contact Dottie Yuschak Magill '66, local volunteer chairman, at dym115@yahoo.com.
