NU NU NU news news news Official Alumni Newsletter of Nu Chapter of Sigma Nu Fraternity, Inc. Fall 2015 House Corporation Completes Front Porch, Basement, and Laundry Room Updates Your Support Is Needed to Finalize Dining Room Plans T his is my first newsletter article after attaining the exalted role of president of the House Corporation. I'm still feeling my way along this path of responsibility and trying to get up to speed. My pledge brother, Ken Guest '67, Nu 1247, did a fabulous job in this position and I can only hope that I can continue in that mode. Many thanks to Ken for his tireless effort. Howard Forsythe '68, Nu 1263 was elected to the secretary position, so the initiation class of 1967 is well represented. PROJECT UPDATES • Front Porch and Steps: This work was completed and has made a vast improvement in the functionality of that area. • Basement Head and Laundry Room: This work is complete and really looks terrific. It has new tile from floor to ceiling and four new sets of washers and dryers. • Dining Room Tables and Chairs: This project is ongoing. Approximately $20,000 has been collected of the estimated $60,000 for completion. Final selection of the product line and purchasing is nearing. Please consider a gift toward this important project. At present, we cannot seat all our members together. Donations of any size are appreciated and will help ensure we have a dining room we are proud to display. Gifts can be sent to: Nu Chapter of Sigma Nu P.O. Box 7272 Kansas City, MO 64113 • HVAC: The chiller pump required repair over the summer. The work was completed, including repair of some rodent damage, in time for move-in day. • Third Floor Window: One window at the top of the stairs has failed. A replacement window has been ordered and will be installed in the near future. E-COMMUNICATIONS PROGRAM You should have recently received an e-mail blast. If you missed it, please send your contact information to sbell@penningtonco.com so that you'll be sure to receive these missives in the future. These blasts allow us to communicate with you in a much less expensive manner. Check with your brothers to make sure they also receive them. SPRING GRADES Once again, the chapter has improved its standing on The Hill. Nu Chapter achieved a 3.34 GPA, ranking behind the Betas and nontraditional fraternity, Delta Lambda Phi. I continue to be impressed with the caliber of men we have in the chapter. Give them a pat on the back when you can. THE FUTURE OF GREEK LIFE A recent article in the news reported that the Sigma Nu Chapter at the University of Central Florida was suspended due to the irresponsible action of just a few members. Each time something like this happens to a fraternity, it drives home the point that one moment of stupidity could completely undo the 126-year history of Nu Chapter and the last 10 years of blood, sweat, and tears to bring back the chapter to its current state. The political climate of the country and the university is such that there is zero tolerance for irresponsible behavior. We must all be vigilant. As I progress through my new role, please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. You can contact me at moon.steve@yahoo.com. Fraternally, Steve Moon '67, Nu 1257 House Corporation President T he Nu Lasting Legacy Circle recognizes alumni who have included Nu Chapter in their wills and estate plans. Twelve brothers have been named to the circle since its launch in 2013. This past spring, a recognition display worthy of this group was installed in the old music room, above the wood paneling and picture rail. A circular gold-leaf frame announcing the Nu Lasting Legacy Circle is flanked by a walnut plaque for each donor. As the ranks of LLC donors expand, the named plaques will form a circle within the room. Please consider being a part of that circle. Contact Steve Sears '80, Nu 1570 at stevesears79@ gmail.com for details about the LLC. Be Part of the Nu's Lasting Legacy Circle The Lasting Legacy Circle display. Please consider adding your name to this growing list of generous donors.
