HISTORY COURTESYPHOTO Long-time Tehama County resident and local author and historian Fran- ces Leininger will be fea- tured at the Tehama County Museum's 34th Annual Ju- bilee slated for Saturday, Sept. 12, in the city of Te- hama. Leininger will be situ- ated just inside the Marty Graffell Annex entrance 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., where she will be greeting the pub- lic while autographing and selling her book "Vina's His- tory in Photos and Stories." Leininger has resided for most of her life near Vina in southeast Tehama County, and as a young woman chose as her mission to re- search and preserve the photographs and stories of the Vina area. It was a labor of love and the fruit of that labor now finds expression in this very fine book pub- lished locally. Leininger will be joined in the annex by local fiber artists, the artworks of lo- cal photographer Barbara Luzzadder, Judy's Country Store featuring locally-cre- ated 36 Lady Prune Cakes and the return of Sam Kis- see and his crack team of antique appraisers who will be donating their services to the Museum. The Tehama County Mu- seum is open 1-4 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday at 275 C St. in Tehama. Lo ca l au th or t o be f ea tu re d at Tehama County Museum Jubilee Everyone has a differ- ent plan for what suc- cess looks like in their lives. Some plans are huge, lofty goals that if achieved, will rad- ically change ev- erything. Some plans would be seen as more simple, less aspiring, but a goal nonetheless. For some, a plan for suc- cess could be as simple as stopping that one thing you do that keeps setting you back. If you talk to people who ended up where they hoped they would be. The ones who seemed to get what they said they wanted, they most likely will tell you that it was a series of little things, done over and over again that got them the big re- sult. The things they did consistently, when no one was looking that got them the result that ev- eryone can see. They built a firm foundation un- der their success of tiny things done over and again and perfected. These habits, these ways of being, made it possible for bigger things to hap- pen in their lives. For every outward suc- cess, there are several in- ward habits and ways of being that permit the suc- cess to happen. Things like tenacity, dependabil- ity, dedication and dis- cipline. The quiet times of doing what you don't want to do now, so you can do what you want to do later. The requiring more of yourself than you think you have to give or even want to give, some- times. These are the pre- cursors to bigger things. If your mindset is that success happens to lucky people, connected peo- ple or people with more money than you, you are giving yourself a cop out and that is the first thing that you need to stop. Life moves in waves and successes come and go. Even the most success- ful people have set backs and unexpected crap that comes into their existence and challenges that make them shake their heads. If you have started making progress in any area of life, only to find out that something came out of nowhere to set you off track. Welcome to the real world. Welcome to the world where things are not always fair, pre- dictable or make sense. You can be a good person with every good intention and making great strides and still bad things can happen. Keep it up. Don't let the tests of time or the inadvertent crap throw you off course. Over time, as you keep doing what is right, you will see that you have changed. Your success won't come as a big break where you are discov- ered for the hidden gem that you are. Lasting suc- cess comes from creat- ing a firm foundation un- derneath. Learn to man- age the little things in your life. Be able to con- quer the little mountains and you can traverse the largest ones. Is your home clean? How about your car? Can you move through your day with ease and efficiency? How are your relationships? Are you at odds with lots of people? How over- whelmed are you? Do you know why? How's your health? Are you physically ready to take on the world? The first step to get- ting the bigger goals is the master the every day elements of life. Make changes and choices in your daily life and the same changes and choices will morph into habits. These habits will become your building blocks for reaching higher goals. FAYDRA RECTOR Littlehabits, bigresults Faydra Rector Scammers have added Instagram to their arsenal of tricks to defraud con- sumers. How? By posting images of people holding handfuls of cash or showing stacks of money telling users just how easy it is to turn a small investment into a lifetime of riches. All the reader has to do is provide a prepaid debit card or bank account so the funds can be easily transferred into the ac- count. However, once this happens, the scammer will quickly shut down the In- stagram account after the transaction takes place and the promised riches are gone forever along with the small investment. In some cases, if an ac- tual bank account is pro- vided, additional funds might be taken out as added insult to injury to the consumer. When you're surfing on- line, look beyond the pho- tos and captions. Avoid posts promising great deals, investments or any- thing that appears to in- volve personal identifica- tion, prepaid cards or sur- veys. This particular scam has been around on the Inter- net for awhile. Readers are falling for the words in the ads such as "dou- ble or triple your invest- ment in minutes!" or "I know a secret trick to help you make money — fast." These are common phrases used by scammers to bait consumers and get them on the hook for a prepaid card, debit card or to wire money. Instagram isn't the only platform a scammer will use. Sometimes they'll spoof or copy a friend's Facebook page and then send you along with all of your friends a friend re- quest with a random mes- sage. Email the owner of the page and see if they know their page may be compromised. Same with Twitter. Be careful who you follow or who follows you. The Better Business Bu- reau will keep looking for bogus postings like this, but it needs your help. If you come across any offers similar to this, report them to BBB's ScamTracker at www.bbb.org/scamtracker. SCAM ALERT Click – you've been scammed PLEASE RECYCLE THIS NEWSPAPER.
