The first Sacramento River Discovery Center guided Bird Walk for 2010 will start at 8 a.m. on Jan. 9. Watchers will meet at the Center, 1000 Sale Lane and be guided by Dr. David Dahnke through parts of the Red Bluff Recreation Area‚s 488 acres to search for some of the more than 50 species that winter or visit this watchable wildlife area during the winter months. "We will hope for another beautiful day such as we had in Decem- ber," said Ben Hughes SRDC Board Chairman, "but no matter what the weather there is always something new and differ- ent to see. Bring your binoculars, a bird guide and a camera. Also be sure to wear weather appropriate clothing and good sturdy shoes, it could be wet and muddy in some areas." The Sacramento River Discovery Center is a non-profit environmental education organization and is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 11 am to 4 pm. It is located within the Men- docino National Forest‚s Red Bluff Recreation Area. To contact the Cen- ter you may call 527-1196 or e-mail Carlene Cramer, center manager at ccramer@tehama.k12.ca. us or visit our website at srdc.tehama.k12.ca.us. Tehama Together is hosting a 2-1-1 Service Exploratory meeting to explore the interest and potential for bringing 2-1- 1 to Tehama County. The meeting will be from 3 to 5 p.m. on Jan. 6 at the Tehama Together Headquarters, 332 Pine Street, Ste. L, in Red Bluff. Every hour of every day, hundreds of people need essential human ser- vices – they are looking for training, employment, food pantries, help for an aging parent, addiction prevention programs for their teenage children, affordable housing options, support groups, and ways of becoming part of their community. 2-1-1 allows people to give help and to get help. 2-1-1 is an easy to remember telephone number that, where avail- able, connects people with important communi- ty services and volunteer opportunities. In 2008, 2- 1-1 services in the United States answered more than 14 million calls. Many of California's larg- er counties currently have 2-1-1 services. Now, efforts are underway to include rural counties with smaller populations in the program. At the meeting, Susan Wilson, who recently attended the State 2-1-1 Summit, will describe efforts being undertaken in Shasta County to implement 2-1-1. Wilson will have the latest infor- mation on the program. Questions to be addressed include: What is 2-1-1? Would it duplicate exist- ing programs? What would it cost? Should we further pursue the poten- tial for 2-1-1 in Tehama County? For information or to R.S.V.P. to attend call 736-5200. Tehama Together looks at 2-1-1 Pasta Feed The United First Methodist Church on 525 David Ave. will be holding a Pasta Feed from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Jan. 2 to help a ministerial candidate. Take out is available, and plates are $5 at the door. Dance class Don't miss the opportunity to register for the Corning Recreation Youth Basketball League or Line Dance Class. The program is in risk of being cancelled if too few people pre-register. For more information or to register, call 824-7011 or e-mail kbeck@corning.org. Meeting The North Valley Nonprofit Council Meeting will be from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Jan. 6 at Beatniks Coffee House, 1387 E. 8th St., in Chico. Robert McMullin of New Clairvaux will do a presentation on developing a successful major gift campaign: Making the Big Ask! Bob McMullin is the Development Director for the Sacred Stones project at the Abbey of New Clairvaux in Vina where he has been employed since April 2009. Bob has worked in the not-for- profit sector for the past 25 years in a variety of leadership positions, but his specialty is fund rais- ing and specifically major gifts. Bob will be mak- ing a presentation on how to cultivate, create and manage a major donor program at a non-profit organization. His presentation will focus on annual giving, but will also address how major donors con- tribute to capital and endowment campaigns. 3-on-3 There will be a men's and women's 3-on-3 Bas- ketball Tournament in honor of Adam Domingo this weekend in Orland. Domingo suffered a severe neck injury in an Alumni Football Game. His friends have rallied to assist him by throwing a bas- ketball tournament. The fee is $100 for women's teams and $125 for men's teams. Each team is guar- anteed five games. For more information or to par- ticipate call Joe at the Orland Recreation Depart- ment 865-1630. RV The Tri-County chapter of the Good Sams will hold a dinner and meeting on Saturday, Jan. 9, at The Pocket Cafe in the Java Lanes Bowling Alley. Anyone owning a self-contained RV that would like to go on monthly campouts with a great group of people can call Wagon Master Vic Dickison at 824-3081, or President Richard Sol at 385-1344. We would really like to hear from interested RVers.
