CORNING CHAMBER Olive Festival a success Red Bluff native Danae Sibert — Red Bluff Union High School class of 1979 — is a nationally known speaker and leader in the health and nutrition in- dustry. Danae began her pas- sion for serving others in 1996 and has helped peo- ple awaken, cleanse, feed and restore their bodies; healing and balancing them, resulting in peo- ple losing thousands of pounds. With a degree in ex- ercise physiology from Mississippi State Univer- sity, Danae has worked with major hospitals in the Chicago area along with Bally Health and Tennis. Danae is a Network Marketing professional with Orenda Interna- tional, a leader in the weight loss and anti-ag- ing industry. RECOGNITION Red Bluff native makes strides in health, nutrition industry REDDING Simpson Univer- sity announced this week that longtime Redding res- ident and restaurateur, Cal DeMercurio, is the new di- rector of dining services. DeMercurio joins Chart- wells, the company that op- erates the Emeriti Dining Center and The Bean Scene cafe for Simpson University at 2211 College View Drive. "We are very pleased to have Chef Cal on the Simp- son campus and are grate- ful for the partnership that the university has with Chartwells," said Brad Wil- liams, vice president for Business Services. "We an- ticipate that Cal's years of culinary ex- p e r i e n c e will serve our students well." DeMercu- rio has been a certified e x e c u t i v e chef with the American Culinary Feder- ation (ACF), past president of the Northern California Chapter of the ACF and rec- ognized as the ACF Chef of the Year. He has taught for more than 20 years, serving as a culinary arts instruc- tor at Shasta College and as culinary arts and hospital- ity instructor for the Shasta Union High School District's Career and Technical Edu- cation (CTE) program. "I am very excited for the opportunity to build on to the high quality and stan- dards already achieved by the partnership of Simp- son University and Chart- wells food services," DeMer- curio said. In 1996, DeMercurio was on Team California that competed in the Interna- tional Culinary Olympics in Berlin and won the only regional gold medal for the United States. DeMercurio was execu- tive chef and owner of De- Mercurio's Fine Dining Res- taurant in Redding for 17 years. He has also worked in restaurant management and as executive chef at North State establishments Tail O' The Whale, Pesce e Pasta, Rivers Restaurant and Old School Restaurant.
