the Florida nus page 2 pattern of problematic behavior and policy violations, which ultimately led to the Chapter receiving an order to cease operations immediately. Creating a Fresh Start One week after the order was given, the Chapter was notified that Florida Nu would be undergoing a membership review that would be conducted by a team comprised of SigEp alumni and SigEp headquarters staff members. About three weeks later, all the members of Florida Nu were notified about the membership decisions that were made by the membership review team. Fourty-one men were invited to return to the Chapter as full members and two were suspended until January 1, 2016. Several members who were invited back chose not to accept the invitation. Others who were not invited to return appealed the decision. Although it is unfortunate that we have been greatly reduced in size and had to part ways with former brothers, I and the rest of the remaining members are very excited for the opportunity we have to reinvent ourselves as a Chapter and steer Florida Nu in the right direction. Setting the Course The first step to bringing Florida Nu back to prominence within the FIU community and nationally is to increase our transparency. I look forward to accomplishing this by working closely with the newly formed Alumni Advisory Council (AAC) headed by Karen Katz, as well as the existing Alumni Volunteer Corporation headed by Eduardo "Eddie" Hondal '88, '00, to begin operating in a way that will transform Florida Nu into the strong Chapter that it has been in the past. In order to bring our Chapter back up to strength, I have set some short-term goals that we will strive to accomplish in the fall semester, including eliminating the negative culture and practices that ultimately led to the membership review, Membership Review (Continued from page 1) The Florida Nu men won first place in Delta Phi Epsilon's soccer philanthropy tournament, Copa DPhiE. implementing better member development practices, getting more involved with community service opportunities such as the 12th man camp that we are regularly participants of, and building stronger relations with our huge alumni base that we have in South Florida. Your Opinion Is Valued I encourage you all to reach out to us while we work to turn Florida Nu into the best Chapter on campus and in the country. Any assistance you offer us would be greatly appreciated. Please e-mail Karen Katz at phide@phide.org.
