SMALL BUSINESS Center offers variety of courses September is National Preparedness Month, an annual awareness event sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA. Stephen Stephens, Owner of ServPro of North Shasta, Trinity and greater Tehama counties, says this is a great time for business owners to review their emergency preparedness and business continuity plans. Accord- ing to FEMA, as many as 40 percent of businesses never reopen following a major flood disaster. "Business owners who think they are prepared for an emergency because ex- its are clearly marked and fire or flood drills are parts of the regular routine really need to take another look at theirpreparations,"Stephens said."Acomprehensiveemer- gency plan also contains crit- icalinformationaboutthelo- cation of shut-off valves, fire suppression system controls, emergency contact numbers and more—information that can saveemergencyrespond- ers precious time and help contain damage and mini- mize injury." Because the time to cre- ate a disaster readiness plan is before you need it, the business has developed the Emergency Ready Pro- gram https://ready.servpro. com/home/mobileapp to help business owners cre- ate an emergency profile for their facility, at no charge. The business owner works to gather and document in- formation that will become critical if a disaster strikes. Once the profile is created, business owners have access to their information 24/7 online and by using the free smartphone app. "For a business to sur- vive and thrive, it needs to get back to business as soon as possible after a disaster strikes," Stephens said. SMALL BUSINESS September is National Preparedness Month Raley's Food For Families Summer Fresh Drive raised an unprecedented $601,950, a full 30% increase over last year's total. The campaign coincided with the launch of Food For Families' Refresh program, designed to increase the availability of fresh produce to their food bank partners throughout Northern Cali- fornia and Nevada. "We asked our custom- ers, our team members, vendor partners and com- munities to help us fill our food banks with fresh fruits and vegetables, and they overwhelmingly re- sponded with support. We can't thank them enough for their generosity," said Jennie Teel-Wolter, Food For Families development officer. "The funds raised by our Food For Families Summer Fresh Drive will help thousands of individ- uals struggling with hunger to live a healthier life." The widespread support allowed the business to reach its goal — donations came from customers, team members, vendors and the business community at large. In addition to cover- ing all administrative costs, Raley's matched $25,000 in monetary donations. With children being home over the summer months, the need for food assistance grows dramatically. Fami- lies with children who rely on meals served at school may find it difficult to make ends meet. Conversely, food bank donations decrease over this same time period. The program works 365 days a year to support fami- lies who are struggling. Raley's extends a special thanks to the generous do- nations of vendors and com- panies.
