Drivers who became lax in school zones during the summer are reminded to be vigilant and obey the rules for the protection of students. Normally, the speed limit is 25 mph when school is not in session, but it's 15 mph on school days. Please be aware of youngsters walking to and from school. The Town has received grant funding for a new walking path along Moon Mountain Rd and con- struction will begin early this fall. Kids are getting excited to recon- nect with their friends, but it can also be a very stressful time. Youngsters who attended the Jolly Q Summer Camp have new tools to use to treat each other with respect. This would be a good time for parents to ask how the youngsters plan on using By Shanana "Rain" BearCat those tools in school. Miss Heather taught the kids deep breathing, Tai Chi and Yoga which are great ways to deal with stress. Stress affects us in many ways in our daily lives. psychiatrist Dr. Shimi Kang recommends parents, "Bring a tone of optimism and excitement to the beginning of school, focus on the positive aspects of learning, of expanding your mind, of meeting new people, of friendships," because that's usually contagious. "Humans respond to their environ- ment so if the environment is stress- ful then we will pick up that stress but if the environment is positive and optimistic, then we will pick that up," Kang tells CBC News. We can all enjoy a bit of stress re- lief in our lives; for ourselves and the youngsters in our lives. Keep breathing and enjoy your day!
