Best of Show award goes to Flournoy artist for his creative duck carvings By Heather Hoelscher hhoelscher@redbluffdailynews.com DN_Heather on Twitter FLOURNOY After only four years of experience in the art of duck carving, Mike Bisceglia has al- ready won two Best of Show awards, one of which was at the Pacific Flyway Decoy Association Wild Life Art Show in Sacramento on July 11-12. Bisceglia, of Flournoy, won this year with his wooden Buf- flehead decoy. Winning in Sacra- mento advanced his experience level from novice to intermedi- ate duck carver. "I've always loved birds and al- ways wanted to have birds in the house," Bisceglia said. "Then I saw bird carvings in an art store." From there Bisceglia knew he wanted to get involved in the craft of wood duck carving. The creative works Bisceg- lia has produced and showcased at shows each year have been awarded many times. In the Wild Life Art Show in July he won three awards, the Best of Show, Best Diver and Best Species. In 2013 at the San Diego show Bisce- glia won Best of Jim Hopper Me- morial Shorebird Award for his decoy in the amateur level. "Currently, as a newcomer to this carving art form I am fo- cused on learning to properly carve the various species of div- ing ducks (that) completely sub- merge under the water," Bisceg- lia said.
