Red Bluff Art Associ- ation's July Artist of the Month is long time mem- ber Peggy Jessup. Jessup first came in con- tact with Red Bluff Art As- sociation in 1985 when there was an open-air ex- hibit in a shopping center parking lot. She has been an active participant in RBAA for 30 years. During that time Jes- sup held several board po- sitions and was president for 2005-2008. About a year and a half ago, her daughters moved her to Washington state due to health issues, but she kept in contact with some of the members. She missed her Red Bluff associations so much that arrangements were made for her to re- turn. She has since come back to Red Bluff and is again part of RBAA. "Peggy is an exception- ally talented artist and a wonderful person," said President Kathy Brehm. "She has been an asset to RBAA for the past 30 years. We are so happy she has come home." Jessup was an accom- plished oil painter fulfill- ing a number of commis- sions. Her specialty and fa- vorite subject was animal portraits, especially dogs. A realistic painter she also found many other subjects to her liking including birds, flowers, butterflies, etc. Her last two portraits were sepia tones of herself and her husband as young children. Jessup has won many ribbons at the Tehama Dis- trict Fair and has been ac- cepted into state and na- tional shows. She says that her paintings are scattered all over the country now. In more recent times, Jessup has enjoyed work- ing in color pencil. She was a member of Pencil Stubs, a group that met weekly for nine years. They even pro- duced a show at the former The Big Picture of just such work. Due to failing health and uncooperative hands Jessup is now thinking of trying a hand at abstract work with her color pencils. The association meets at 10 a.m. Thursdays at the Te- hama District Fairground, 650 Antelope Blvd. in Red Bluff. For more informa- tion, call 529-1603 or visit redbluffartassoication.com.
