A As members of Theta Iota began planning the centennial celebration, Mary Lynn Manning '82 was quick to volunteer. When it came time to select a chairman, there was expected silence. As stillness filled the room, Mary Lynn took just a few seconds to reflect on her time at 1834 Laramie. That quick moment was all she needed before proudly raising her hand. "We are truly celebrating 100 years of ourselves, our community that we built," Mary Lynn said. "Don't get me wrong, Sarah Ida Shaw and Eleanor Dorcas Pond put the structure and ideals in place, and we owe them a great deal. But we, the women of Theta Iota at Kansas State University, created an environment where bonds of friendship could sustain the changing times of the past 100 years. That is impressive. That is worth standing up for." After the countless hours the committee members spent preparing for the celebration, the group walked away with new friendships and a renewed passion for Delta Delta Delta. "Thank you, Theta Iota, for introducing me to great women in the past and in the future," Mary Lynn said. "As chairman of this event, I have been given an opportunity to reach out to so many impressive members and make new friends. It was a great privilege to serve my sisters." Mary Lynn resides in New York City and works as senior vice president at The Medicines Company. She enjoys attending shows at the theater, live music, and traveling with her nieces and nephews. H 2 The Golden Crescent House Corporation Plans for Chapter House Roof Replacement Your Help Is Needed to Fund This Necessary Project House Corporation members have been keeping a close eye on the roof of the Chapter House, knowing that its replacement was imminent. The heavy spring rains in Manhattan made the situation very clear; work needs to be done now, especially on the north slope side of the roof, which is the most problematic. The bad news—the most recent bid to replace the roof of the traditional part of the house was $108,000. The good news—thanks to a combination of funds from a diligent savings plan by the House Corporation, proceeds from the Centennial Fund and auction, monies from a Tri Delta Housing Grant, and the HC general operating budget, arrangements have been made to proceed with replacement of the north slope side of the roof starting immediately. The work entails removing the red clay tiles, replacing underlayment and repairing any damage, and replacing the tiles. Plans are for this project to be complete by August, barring any unforeseen issues. This project is one that could not be put off any longer. All indications are that we'll need to continue work within the next year or two on the south (front) slope of the roof. Of course, we'll continue with our savings plan and will continue to be good stewards of all House Corporation funds so that hopefully work may be scheduled when needed. HOW CAN YOU HELP? If you have been planning to contribute to the Centennial Fund, this is a great time to do so! If you'd like to make a real difference in the care of our beautiful home, this is your opportunity! Please see specific information on the enclosed donation card. The overall functionality and beauty of our Chapter House depends on all of us.
