Corporations and foreign nationals without green cards are prohibited from contributing. Fraternity and Sorority Members See Returns from Congressional Advocacy Day W hile the Fraternity and Sorority PAC does not lobby, we do like to keep our donors up to date on the lobbying activities of our fraternities and sororities. Fraternity and sorority leaders had another successful annual Congressional Advocacy Day on April 29, as 250 national alumni and student leaders came to Washington to talk to policymakers. This year's visits focused on three important issues. First, leaders talked to Congress about the need to preserve the full value of charitable contributions to organizations like fraternities and sororities, as President Obama has repeatedly suggested legislation that would reduce the tax value of charitable contributions by high-income individuals. Second, fraternity and sorority leaders continued to push for passage of the Collegiate Housing and Infrastructure Act (CHIA), which would allow for our national educational foundations to use tax-deductible charitable contributions to build, maintain, or improve the $6 billion of housing stock our organizations use to host 250,000 students a year. As of June 26, CHIA had 58 House sponsors and nine Senate sponsors, most of whom signed on as a result of the April visits from students and alumni. Finally, fraternity and sorority leaders spent part of their time in April talking about the education, prevention, and support activities they provide to students to help combat the sexual assault problems we face on campuses today. With Congress expected to consider the reauthorization of higher education programs in 2015-16, policymakers are considering ways to make campuses safer for all students, and Greeks are an important part of that conversation.
