Students Lobby Members of Congress Greetings to our Fraternity and Sorority Political Action Committee (FSPAC) supporters! I hope you will enjoy the news of our recent visit to Washington, D.C., to lobby for Greek issues. The Fraternal Government Relations Coalition (FGRC) hosted 250 collegians and alumni for lobbying on Capitol Hill on April 29. Several days of training preceded the lobby day and both students and alumni were trained in the nuances of the Collegiate Housing and Infrastructure Act, protection of freedom of association rights under Title IX, preservation of charitable giving deductions, and supporting National Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Throughout the day, 450 congressional offices were visited and valuable contacts were made. Our students carry the load in these visits and it is inspiring to watch them interact with congressional representatives, senators, and staff. The students come back from these visits with a renewed appreciation for our government and on fire to represent our Greek issues. FSPAC Successes At our annual FSPAC fundraising dinner, we hosted many members of Congress who spoke of their collegiate and alumni experiences as Greeks. We also celebrated our 10th anniversary of the PAC and its many accomplishments. Some of those accomplishments include: • The FSPAC is the largest political action committee committed solely to the interests of college students. • The FSPAC is a truly bipartisan organization, supporting leaders who share our interest in the fraternal experience regardless of their political experience. • The FSPAC is celebrating 10 years of helping fraternity and sorority leaders build a positive presence in Washington. • The FSPAC has raised more than $2.4 million from thousands of supporters since its inception. • 85% of all candidates supported since 2005 have been elected. • 88% of candidates supported in 2014 were elected. • Eight fraternity and sorority alumni won first-time races in 2014. • The FSPAC remains committed to electing women to Congress. Fourteen women were helped in winning their elections in 2014. Greek Issues in the News As you have noticed in the news this year, it has been a hard year for Greeks. Please know that the Fraternity and Sorority Political Action Committee, along with the FGRC, has been actively addressing the public relations of this bad publicity and will continue to get our message of the value of Greek membership out to the general public.
